He is only suspending his campaign.
He keeps his delgates.
If he were to drop out they would go elsewhere.
I imagine Romney realizes that with McCain and Huckabee playing footsie (i.e. WV tactics) he doesn’t have a chance. He’s splitting conservatives votes with Huck and in the upcoming states, many of the primaries are open, so that means McCain benefits, so what’s the point of continuing if there’s no way to win.
I am sorry for my ignorance in this but if Mitt officially ends his candidacy I am assuming that his accumulated electoral votes are lost. Do they go to the second place finisher in that district or are they open to make a choice otherwise at the convention? What is the significance of this as it pertains to delegates?
Sweet!
Thanks.
Let’s face facts. Romney had his chance, everyone has been exposed to him, he got his side out there. He tried, he lost. It is just as well that he gets out. Time to concentrate on the general election against the Fascist Party. Just remember that the next president will pick up to 6 supreme court justices. Even McCain will choose better than the beast. Another thing, on immigration, who do trust more? McCain or the beast?
racist, America blaming looney tune Paul doesn’t have a chance
I am so annoyed with these people...Thompson, Romney, and the GOP establishment have pissed me off by just throwing in the towel to this loser McCain.
I am done with the GOP this year. Not voting McCain. There are enough liberals and independents to put him over in my state...my vote doesn’t matter.
America...stuck on stupid..you get what you ask for. Enjoy it.

Poor Mike Huckabee. He is now useless to the McCain camp. It’s all over for him.

Yep. For all of Romneys flaws and shortcomings, he was the only chance to strike back at the establishment. They hated him for a reason.
We blew it, big time. Now we've got George Soros' point man at the head of our party.
This is a monumental ****ing disaster.
I love this plan.
C'mon Mitt, take one for the team.
Time to find a Third Party conservative candidate to support!
Definitely.
I wish Mitt the best. He put up a good campaign, but there are just too many anti-American socialists/global warming wonks who will pull the lever for McAmnesty
I will never support a George Soros candidate like McAmnesty
Third party here I come.
I couldn’t agree more. Romney hasn’t convinced me that he’s anything other than a RINO trying to act like he’s a conservative. I’ve always believed he’d prove to be the most liberal and destructive of all the GOP candidates.
Good riddance, indeed.
“Romney waited too long to find his voice and the conservatives didnt rally to him soon enough.”
I agree. And, unfortunately, some conservatives bought the spin and dishonesty by the McCain/Huckster tag team about his record. As an example:
“Find his voice... He was about as real a Conservative as his hair was.”
So now we’re stuck with the true liberal.
I asked about that on another thread...if one “suspends” his campaign, does that mean he can jump back in, let’s say if McCain blows his top?
I’m sorry to see Romney drop out, but it’s clearly the right decision at this point. It’s just McCain’s year.
Who would’ve believed a few months ago that McCain and Huckabee would be the last men standing?
I hope we continue to hear from Romney in the future. Like Bush, I know he’s not perfect, but I don’t understand the extent of the hostility against him.
This is in stark contrast to McCain who finished fifth from the bottom of his class at Annapolis and who had an extensive affair before marrying his wife Cindy.
Mitt’s problem was three fold: (1) he was a Mormon (2) His former liberal views on social issues (3) his failure to use the economy has his primary issue from the outset.
Fox News confirming from a Romney spokesman that the story is true. Karl Rove also hearing the same, independently.
Liberal Mitt can now get together with his liberal NY pal, Rudy, and they can go have a liberal beer they can cry crocodile tears into.
They know that Mccain and Huck are both liberals.
Two Down.
Two to go.
Fox is reporting that Romney’s camp is CONFIRMING this news to their reporters.
Woooo hooooo!
Now....how do we get McCain and Huck to drop out.
Answer: We can run “none of the above” for the presidency.
