MIAMI - Sen. John McCain won a breakthrough triumph in the Florida Republican primary Tuesday night, edging past former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and seizing precious campaign momentum for next week's string of contests across 21 states.
"It shows one thing: I'm the conservative leader who can unite the party," the Arizona senator said in a brief interview with The Associated Press. "It's a very significant boost, but I think we've got a tough week ahead and a lot of states to come."
The victory was worth 57 national convention delegates for McCain, a winner-take-all's haul and the largest single prize to date in the race.
Rudy Giuliani was in third place, his best showing of the campaign but possibly not good enough to warrant continuing.
Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee trailed but told supporters he would forge on.
Put me down in the "No" column for this. Feel free to check any of my posts at any time.
I was pointing out that Zogby was the most accurate pollster for FL. For SC, Survey USA was tops. For MI, Mason Dixon nailed the election results.
Seems few have noticed, the fix was in long ago..
It’ll be the liberal Republican VS the liberal Democrat come next election.
Who ever said it could be? Who's trying to "buy" it? It does prove that Republicans are easily swayed by the idea of "electability" and learned little from the lessons of Mr. Charisma, Bob Dole.
Delegates don't come cheap these days.
When will all non-Hispanics realize this and start voting as a block as well?
Chuck Todd, that’s his name...good friend of mine.
Actually, I’ve seen polls suggesting McCain has a shot in Mass.
haha, I love it!
I voted for Fred too.
I’m with you... As a Vietnam Vet I have alot of respect for Senator McCain. But as numerous folks have pointed out, his near-constant collaboration with Kennedy, McCain-Feingold, et. al. has made him the most distasteful candidate I can think of...
I do? Ah...I’ve had the same username since 2004.
Infact I think I will steal that and use it as my tag line.
Well, for starters, he could name 3, possibly 4 Supreme Court Justices.
Yeah, I have to admit that too. This was a pretty remarkable win by McCain. However, I would say that he was only really outspent 4-1 because of all the free MSM coverage of him.
Hard Left.
Do you think the average voter in Florida has a clue what your sentence just said? Nope. So, right or wrong, our voters are largely uninformed and make decisions based upon American-Idol calculations, rather than any ideas or policies.
Did you vote for the person who pushed and lobbied the McCain-Kennedy bill from the administration?
I WILL NOT VOTE,I WILL NEVER GIVE ANYMORE HARD EARNED MONEY TO THE GOP. THEY CAN KISS MY CONSERVATIVE A$$!
