i would sincerely be interested in hearing what Ann and Laura would say to that. they have the megaphone, they have the following, and they supposedly loved the guy. Why didn’t they do something about it?

>>>>>The American voters DO suck, and are a bunch of morons.

In September 1996 I was so PO’d at the prospects for the upcoming election that I left the country for 1 1/2 years.

But seeing Clinton’s smarmy mug on the cover of TIME India post Nov 4, 1996 didn’t make me angry at him, it caused revulsion for “my fellow citizens”.

Mitt Romney advanced more conservative principles in this one speech than any other candidate’s speech:

Mitt Romney has flip flopped on issues to appear Conservative. The GOP had a Conservative in Duncan Hunter but once again the party has proven it's abandonment of Conservatism.

Guess we’ll have to agree to disagree, but I appreciate your responses. Didn’t mean to come across as lumping you personally, but answer this, please.

If most republicans are “good conservatives” why are Fred and Hunter now gone? The problem as I see it is that these days, most people who call themselves republicans aren’t very solid on conservatism.

Conversely, those of us who consider ourselves to be solid conservatives aren’t very solid these days with republicans.

The rest of 2008:

Romney-Thompson vs. Clinton-Obama = Uh oh. But it's not going to happen, so relax.

Romney-Thompson vs. Clinton-Richardson = 2 new Federalist/Strict Constructionist Supreme Court justices!

Romney-Thompson vs. Clinton-Clark = 2 new Federalist/Strict Constructionist Supreme Court justices!

Romney-Thompson vs. Obama-Anything = LANDSLIDE! 2 new Federalist/Strict Constructionist Supreme Court justices!

Ergo, for those of you with the option, work for / vote for Obama over Hillary.

I respect Obama's oratorial skills, although behind them lie McGovernik pisswater socialism (at best). I dig his stage skills under the TV lights the same way I dig Tiger Woods poise.

That said, this country is 20 years away from electing either a woman or an African-American on any ticket, unless they pair up. Fortunately, Madame Cankles is stupid & stubborn enough to piss that away. You're watching it right now.

"Hunter Duncan" wasn't in it to win?
He wasn't even trying.

What are you talking about?

Go back and compare the campaigns of Hunter, vs that of Thompson. Hunter announced his candidacy WAY before Thompson, he didn't putz around wasting time, he was working the rubber chicken banquet circuit, he was out there doing what he could, with what he had, and he fought a damn good fight for someone operating on a bare bones budget. You think Hunter was walking around in the winter cold of New Hampshire because he "wasn't in it to win"?

You think that his son registered as a member right here on FR to act as a contact point between Freepers and Duncan Hunter because his Dad "wasn't in it to win"?

What did Fred ever do to reach out to those who supported him here on Free Republic? Compared to Hunter, the answer is *nothing*.

How much do you know about Hunter anyway? What convinces you that he wasn't "trying"?

What has you p*ssed off Petronski is that after all of your sneers, smears and ridicule about Duncan Hunter (whose 26+ years of service to this Country carries more weight with me than Thompson's), it galls you that Thompson has done exactly what many here on FR were predicting, he dropped out.

NOBODY, not even you Petronski, can legitimately make the claim that Duncan Hunter ran a 'lazy' campaign, but there is more than ample evidence that Thompson did exactly that. He was late to run, early to drop out, and those are the cold hard facts of life.

But if smearing Hunter, (the only true Reagan conservative who actually arrived with Reagan in Washington in 1980) makes you feel better Petronski, than have at it.

But I'm telling you as sincerely as I know how, that you do yourself and your fellow Fred supporters no service in behaving that way.

I’m for whoever, wherever necessary to get a broken convention...and a real candidate. Otherwise It’s Hillary with hopes of destroying the DNC.

You are very frustrated with people who think like we do and we are just as frustrated with people who are taking your line. A party that was once united behind a common cause is now becoming very divided.

If conservatives go into the voting booth and choose between the lesser of evils nothing will ever change and we’ll keep getting mediocre liberal leaning republican candidates because conservatives are supporting them with their vote. Why would the party change at that point if the sheep are all going to follow them off the edge of the cliff?

This is why we keep getting rhino candidates. They seem to know that instead of taking a stand conservatives will cave in and vote for whatever garbage is presented to them. How long is the threat of “HILLARY” going to be held over our heads? There isn’t that much difference between the remaining candidates and Hillary except for their stance on the war in Iraq. That battle is just about over now. None of those dem candidates once president is going to pull out of there overnight. Reality will set in believe me.

Conservative Republicans must show the party that we won’t vote for liber leaning candidates. I’ve never thought of my vote as just “settling”. I’ve always chose whom I thought would do a good job and supported my choice enthusiastically. I haven’t always been happy with my choices later. I’m choosing the leader of my country not a pair of shoes. And sometimes shoes don’t fit as well after wearing them a few hours as they seemed to in the store:(

Did you ever hear the expression “they had to hit rock bottom?” I’m sure you have and usually people that continue to have problems with substance abuse have people who have enabled them to carry on with their self-destructive behavior. I look at the state of the republican party and our country’s political situation much in the same way. I think we have to hit rock bottom before the American public opens it’s eyes. We haven’t suffered enough yet.

Holding one’s nose is only enabling the republican party to sell conservatives down the river once again and prolonging the inevitable agony. If you vote for the candidate they put up they can only assume that you are very happy with that choice. How else will they know that you are serious about wanting another choice?

Let Americans have their Obama or Hillary for 4 years. The only happy people will be the losers who live off of taxpayer largess.

The country must have a majority of left leaning citizens or things would be different. There doesn’t seem to be much enthusiasm or support for conservative candidates out there.

I won’t waste my vote but I cannot in good conscience vote for someone who I do not believe will be good for my family or my country. I will write in Fred Thompson. If all of the former Thompson voters did that perhaps it would send a message to the Republican party. While it may not accomplish getting him elected it will be a pretty solid statement that there are alot of republicans out there that will no longer put up with being sold out and will not sell their votes.

I do think it is time for a third political party. Conservatives really have no home anymore with the Republican party. Both of the parties have taken a huge step to the left and now a gaping hole remains that is sucking conservatives down into it. I can’t jump in willingly after all of the rest of the sheep. It’s just not in my nature.

And that is the thinking that is behind this conservative granny not filling in the circle next to Romneys name in November. I’ll be at the polls however voting in the local races, choosing conservative judges and candidates for other offices hoping that we can get some momentum going and somewhere in there maybe some cream will rise to the top.

No offense, but you sound like the liberals who promised to leave the US if Bush won a second term.

Fred Thompson’s campaign was horribly managed. He got in late and he came out of the gate very slowly. Personally, I think he should have stayed in until super Tuesday, but that’s his decision. As a party, we’re not even close to our nominee. I get worried when I see conservatives buying into the drive by media’s line about ‘staying home’ if this candidate or that candidate drops out. The election is still 10 months away. Neither party knows their nominee, the doom and gloom stuff isn’t really necessary at this point.

We’re conservatives. Maybe it’s time we all start acting like conservatives.

Between now and November a caller is going to ask Rush would a Shrillary presidency (or Obamalamadingdong presidency) cause irrevocable damage or will it not. THAT is the issue now.

Tpanther,

IT will be. However imagine this. The American people go for the Clinton Machine again for various dysfunctional reasons, they need to go back to that, even thought it is not healthy.

That is their issue, those that vote for them and not see through them, not mine.

But of concern is the following. The real left nutters will not be satisfied with her, the Daily Kos, DU'ers IMHO they may get ugly. Like a reoccurring skin aliment, the Camo-McVeigh types will pop up again. How can I say this, IMHO the combo of those two elements would make 1968, look like a Sunday Ice Cream Social.

Combine that with economic headwinds that she can't fix will all the tax increases in the world (entitlements) and we have a comedy of errors that would outshine such classics as the movie "The Money Pit" but it wouldn't be funny. I don't mean to have a moment of Shadenfraude, before it happens, but maybe the American Sheeple, not those here need it to wake up.....

They don’t have to cover anyone they don’t want to.

It’s your job as a candidate to have enough of a following that they have to cover you.

That's psychological projection if ever there was such a thing. The biggest problem Hunter Duncan had was his own supporters.

No, it’s about Fred’s belief in limited government, which no one else shares. The others believe man-made global warming!! Talk about U.N. plans to control people!Bob

Bingo, and add your Tag line.
