“Rudy dodged the draft.”

I’m not going to your link.

Did Rudy dodge the draft or are you making that up?

Though I’m not a fan of McCain, I have to concede he has a dry speaking style and sense of humor that absolutely rocks.

“Rudy also used the remains of 9/11 victims to fill pot holes. He’s a sick man.”

That’s a pretty sick thing to say.

“Even if it is, how is McCain better than anyone else on that issue? He’s already tipped his hand on anything resembling coercive questioning. It seems as though Fred, Duncan, Mitt, or Rudy might all be slightly better than John on GWOT. Even Hillary might scare the terrorists more ( she scares me! ).”

With the possible exception of Hunter, none of those candidates have the national security or foreign policy exposure of John McCain. By most accounts maybe four or five waterboardings have taken place in the past few years. If that is the hook we are hanging our hat on (which it is not) then I fear for our country.

And on amnesty, you have not been paying attention for the last year and a half. There will be no amnesty. Not going to happen.

Hillary? Sheesh.

Are you saying Romney and Rudy don’t want to win the War? Sorry, I don’t believe you. McCain does not to waterboard. McCain wants to shut down Gitmo.

First of all, McCain was the one calling for Rumsfeld to get canned due to Rumsfeld not committing enough troops to win in Iraq. McCain called for the surge when it was politically unpopular to do so. That's leadership and we are better off for McCain's leadership on this issue. I don't doubt that Rudy and Romney want to win the war on terror, but McCain has actually done something to bring about victory.

Second, I am proud that my candidate has the courage to clearly and without equivocation oppose the use of torture. If you want a candidate that is pro-torture then you are free to look elsewhere because McCain will never support torture just to win your vote.

Talk is cheap. What has McCain done in Congress to bring fiscal restraint to Washington? What do you mean by “back”?

Are you serious? Just take a look at the federal deficit to find out what I mean by bringing fiscal restraint "back" to Washington. It's been gone for a long time.

Do you really think McCain would appoint Judges who would throw out McCain-Feingold?

I believe McCain will appoint strict constructionist judges like Roberts and Alito.

Yes, Checkers, it appears that Rudy dodged the draft. You can find the details in the article at that link.

I'll bet you thought he got out of the draft because he was a transvestite, didn't you? I don't think that was good enough in those days, but he might have tried that.

No, he asked a friendly judge to write a letter to his draft board asking that Rudy be allowed to duck service on the ground that he was a "law clerk." That's a good one, eh?

Yeah, Rudy the Warrior. ROFL.

You do realize that Fred and John worked closely in the Senate, have similar records, and are very good friends. Fred was even national co-chair of McCain’s 2000 campaign. They never attack or even criticize each other on the campaign trail.

That’s why McCain is on the rise.

He's "on the rise" because many undecided Republicans (the core Republicans who voted in 2004) are giving him a 2nd look. I have to admit though - the candidacy was flat-lining back in the summer and has moved back into contention. That's more confirmation that the GOP race is very volatile and the party itself continues its behind-the-scenes fight between the Bush Republicans and the conservative-libertarians that are backing Dr. Paul.

Yes. And if he was such a great leader, why was McQueeg not promoted to Admiral?

I Agree. McCain loves to jump on the bandwagon. He reminds me of people like Neal Boortz who kicked Bush around. He reminds me of the wishy washy Senators like Dole, Hatch, and others who liked to glad hand with the Democrats and take unnecessary jabs at the President. McCain is not trustworthy. The way he sold out free speech by limiting political contributions. I can’t stand the man.

Yes, I’m serious. The last time we had no deficit was before we were attacked. What has McCain ever done to bring “back” fiscal restraint? Btw, why didn’t McCain lift a finger to help the President reform Social Security?

“There will be no amnesty. Not going to happen.”

I’m glad you are so confident. In my opinion if John McCain is the GOP nominee, both major-party Presidential candidates will be pro-amnesty.

You sir, have done an excellent job at defending McCain here. I used to be a harsh critic of McCain but I didn't know about the real history of Charles Keating or his real military service. I like it when FReepers stand their ground and smack down allegations with simple facts without resorting to negativity.

That said, he's surely better than Romney or Rudy.

I doubt the victims of future terrorist attacks give a good G*d Damn that you’re “proud” of your candidate.
Some of us actually prefer policies that save American lives.
But it’s all about McCain...

McCain is one one-hundreth of a dysfunctional debating society. That’s it.

So he’s got that goin’ for him.
