An interesting tact to take. So why not just allow more immigrants to come here legally?

I think one of the problems with the country in general, and the GOP in particular, is that we have gotten used to looking at everything in purely economic terms. While the economy is very important—it isn’t everything by a long shot. In fact, ultimately, our culture is vastly more important than the economy. Why? Because our economy is the way it is because our culture enabled it. Dilute the culture too much and you will end up with something else. It may be better, but I suspect it will be worse. Going further, I think our economy has worked too well, as materialistic prosperity has made us spoiled, complacent, and nihilistic.

For the last 40 years, we have been tinkering with our culture in unprecedented ways, some good (free flow of information), but mostly not (decline of religion, worshiping of gay rights, extreme materialism, etc). The problem I have with the current wave of immigrants is twofold. First, their being here requires a suspension of the rule of law—which has a corrosive effect on our society. Second, they are not being assimilated in the same way many European nationalilies were. Thanks to politicial correctness, we are no longer a melting pot. Again, the ultimate effect of all these is still TBD, but the problem it is all happening too fast and without debate. I suspect that 100 years from now, the US will become a balkanized country as a result.

Great points! And you wrote them without going all insane or resorting to personal attacks. You did this will remaining rational...that’s very rare for when this topic is broached!
