The point I was trying to make is that it is a mistake for parents to encourage their kids to chase the latest trendy fad from Hollywood whatever it may be. Parents that spend hundreds of dollars on Hannah Montana tickets are setting almost as bad of an example for their kids as that Garland mother. Not sure if some of these parents know the difference between reality and fantasy. If not, I feel sorry for the kids.
Liking a TV show is one thing. Spending gobs of money on merchandise for that TV show is something else.
And you know nothing about my family, so keep your unwarranted (and VERY inaccurate) comments to yourself.
Are there any rumors around there that the girl comes from a traveler family?
If the parents have the money then thats there choice. Do some parents go over the top? Most definately. But buying some CD’s or a Hannah Montana journal or whatever isn’t going to harm any child.
I’ve indulged my boys over the years, we’ve done dirtbiking and Supercross, skateboarding and Tony Hawks Boom Boom Huck Jam (it was actually really cool). We’ve gone out of our way to take my boys to sporting events to see their favorite players, Michael Jordan for example. Did I pay more than face value for the tickets? You bet. Was it worth it? Sure was. We’ve gone through long hair and earrings, heavy metal music and rap. And guess what, without my insistance they’ve always reverted back to the cleancut, church going, polite, conservative young men I know that they are.
Are they angels? No, but they are a lot of fun! They’ve given me more gray hair than I care to admit. It’s not over yet but so far so good.
Exactly.
I don’t think the mom will be embarrassed at all. She is too morally bankrupt to even understand what she has done.
Relax. Nobody is being forced to watch Hannah Montana. From what I’ve seen her show is just a campy comedy for teenager and prepubescents. Another one thats cute is ‘Thats so Raven’. I really appreciate the fact that Raven continued her show after she got chunky. I think that helps kids understand that not everyone has to be skinny to be liked.
I’m glad I was not the only person creeped out by his post.
I posted on a couple of the other threads on this topic that there was an interview with the young neighbor of this little girl on our local news right before the football game.
The neighbor said that the little girl is one of three children in the family, there are two parents and the father is a carpet-layer. He has *never* served in the military.
Before hearing that, there had been a news report earlier today that it was the grandmother who ratted them out on the lie, but she said the little girl’s father was deployed in Iraq, but still alive.
Perhaps it is a Traveler family, come to think of it.
Too over-the-top for me, that’s for sure...
I don’t know if the update is posted, but I read that Club Libby Lu has given the tickets to a new winner.
Good.
Yeah, Raven’s a good actress.
I even read somewhere that someone thought the character of Hannah Montana herself was a liar for having a secret identity and probably was a bad influence on her fans.
That’s really low to lie like this and use a 6 year old. That woman has been vilified for this. I guess she did not know what happened to other shunned people. I have heard that Arlen is Garland. I tend to think Arlen is in Central Texas though because of reference to Austin and a nearby military base.
If i was caught lying and cheating in school, I would get kicked out for it. They don’t look too kindly at that.
“The company needs to make an example of this sort of behavior and go to the next runner up.”
According to a news report I watched a day or so ago that is what happened.
I noticed that too.
“I think Miley Cyrus a.k.a. “Hannah Montana” (who is the daughter of Billy Ray Cyrus), is being a bit over-sold. From what I read at present she is 14 years old. I sure hope she turns out ok.”
Billy Ray Cyrus was interviewed by Glenn Beck a while back. I was stunned by his down to earth demeanor, genuine caring nature and fatherly wisdom and compassion.
It was shocking to see a celebrity with such values. If there ever were a celebrity role model for fathers, he is one of them.
I don’t think the point is if HM is good or not.
The point is the mom teaching her daughter to lie (about a death!!) is a-ok if it gets you what you want!
