Take away their badge and gun, and give them a mop and bucket.

What pisses me off and always has is that police recognize how vicious the teeth of a dog are, and condemn measures of suspects to affirmatively defend themselves, and do so with with oppressive penalties.
Yet, policeman routinely kill innocent pets with the defense, “I was just defending myself.”

What you want to bet they don’t even offer to pay for the dog?
Unless they get sued, and then the chances, while improved, are probably still not high.

Police State alert.
A lawsuit won’t bring the dog back, but it’s what passes for justice/retribution these days...

I’d have called 911 and had the cop arrested. If this dog had been a K9 officer killed while attacking someone, the killer would be arrested.

Police or not, I don’t believe they have the legal right to enter your back yard without a warrant for your address. Front yard is a different story. Unless fenced, front yard is considered accessible to the public.

Another policeman taking advantage of a job benefit. And it seems to be escalating. Will they start shooting dogs from their car windows? Will they bring snipers along when they leave tow-notices on peoples’ junk cars so they can shoot the dog in the back yard from the street?

The family deserves compensation, but the department’s giving someone else's (taxpayer) money away won’t deter this type of big gun, little dick behavior. People need to lose their jobs and pensions.

Hmmmmmmmm...Criminal trespass, negligent discharge of a weapon, destruction of private property.....these aren't LEO's, they are the criminals, pure and simple.
There is no need to wonder why those in that profession are called "PIGS". They think they are above the law.

Here is an interesting question: What if the dog had actually taken out the cop? Say this dog was a trained guard dog, and was able to get the drop on the cop by way of hiding in some bushes. What if the dog succeeded in protecting his master’s property by removing the cop’s throat? What kind of charges do you think the police would try to attach to the dog’s owner? Would they hold up in court? I wonder. The cop was killed while trespassing, but cops are above the law, so who would win?

The department should have to pay BIG for this and these cops should be fired and barred from ever working for a police department again.
But the way things work now-a-days, they will more than likely get time off WITH pay as “punishment”.
