I'm cautiously optimistic over this but it looks like (at least for now) the good guys have won.

The heroes for this victory deserve credit and that’s Lou Dobbs, Jim Tedisco, Frank Merola and all the County clerks, and the NYS Senate. There is a GOP in NY after all. :)

Okay, so what about the other states that allow illegals to have licenses? Hawaii, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah and Washington.

Could have told the idiot, not that he’d have listened, that amnesty is radioactive even among liberals. We didn’t kill amnesty on our own this year, we worked together with liberals to kill it. Though conservatives DID, for the most part, lead the charge.

This is one of the only bi-partisan issues, so it would figure elected politicians would find themselves on the wrong end.

We went after Bush/mcCain and Lindsey, your base went after you and Hillary. Your ratings suffer everytime you try it. the CITIZENS of ths country are united in their opposition to amnesty.

Breaking News Alert

Gov. Eliot Spitzer is abandoning his plan to issue driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants, saying that opposition is just too overwhelming to move forward with such a policy.

The governor, who is to announce the move formally on Wednesday, said in an interview Tuesday night that he did not reach the decision easily. “You have perhaps seen me struggle with it because I thought we had a principled decision, and it’s not necessarily easy to back away from trying to move a debate forward,” he said.

Move the debate forward? Who's Spitzer kidding, he tried to ram it down everyone's throat. And it was done for votes. What fools he takes us for...

Hillary’s support for it will haunt her campaign. The damage has been done to her and when she is called on it by the republican nominee during a debate and in political ads, it will help destroy her chances to win the presidency.

LAUGH BREAK: Gov Spitzer is an equal opportunity campaign killer----he downed Hillary and nailed Giuliani in one blow. Licensing illegals hit the headlines Oct 2007 when Spitzer announced his plan to license illegals---a move that was expected to facilitate vote-fraud for millions of illegals.

LEFT IN THE LURCH: Giuliani's Choice for Homeland Security---his ex-Police Chief William Bratton-----came out publicly to Endorse Licensing Illegals

In a statement released by Spitzer’s office October 2007, LA Police Chief Bratton endorsed the licensing plan, saying: "As former Commissioner of the New York City Police Department and now Chief of the Los Angeles Police Department (since 2002), I support efforts that have the potential to solve crimes and improve traffic safety. That’s why I backed legislation in California that would give undocumented immigrants the ability to get a driver’s license once they have provided proof of their identification. It is my belief that by doing that you would reduce the number of hit and runs and increase the number of insured motorists on the road. We would also now have undocumented immigrants’ identifying information on record such as photographs and addresses which could prove helpful in the fight against crime and terrorism. "

RUDY: I'D TAP MY OLD FOE BRATTON (for Homeland/Sec/Secretary)
By DAVID K. LI, NY POST, August 13, 2007

EXCERPT GOP presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani floated an extraordinary olive branch to bitter rival William Bratton, hinting he'd consider his estranged former top cop for a high federal post. In an interview in this week's New Yorker magazine, Giuliani was asked whom he'd tap for Homeland Security secretary if elected to the White House. The former mayor lavished praise on his first police commissioner, Bratton, the city's top cop from 1994-96..... Giuliani is largely blamed for forcing Bratton, now LA police chief, out of office in an ugly battle of egos. "But you sort of look back on some of the things and say that was an extraordinarily productive relationship," Giuliani told the magazine. Now that I look back on it, I really appreciate the (Bratton) relationship."

Kerik, NY's top cop from 2000 to 2001 and a close friend of Giuliani's, was briefly nominated for Homeland Security's top post by President Bush. Kerik withdrew, claiming his employment of an illegal nanny would make his confirmation too difficult. It soon emerged that Kerik had a flood of ethics allegations that were much more serious.

Congressional aides say New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer has decided to abandon his plan to issue driver's licenses to illegal immigrants.

Clinton went against the wishes of enormous grassroots opposition when she flubbed her debate answer to a nitwit plan by Gov Spitzer to give driver's licenses to illegal aliens. The next day Hillary sought to "clarify" her position by inexplicably endorsing the sure-fail Spitzer licensng plan.

He may be just trying to get people off-guard and sneak parts of the program into place by getting subtle things thrown into other legislation.

Sorry to hear this...sort of. It was great fun watching them squirm and wiggle trying to make it sound like a good idea - to say nothing of a great issue for Republicans.

However, I have faith the nut-cases in the Democrat party will soon find a way to step in another pile of excrement that we can exploit; if we can get the Republican Party to get its act together....whos leading the show - its hard to tell!!

Gonna be an interesting year!

He’s not a popular guy with fellow Dhimmicrats, particularly in the NY legislature. He certainly doesn’t keep people waiting around to find out what is his position on things, though. :’)

Sorry people. This is how ABC is spinning this:

“Clinton has been criticized by her Democratic and Republican rivals for her noncommittal answers on the subject. She has said she sympathizes with governors like Spitzer who are forced to confront the issue of immigration because the federal government has not enacted immigration reform. She has not taken a position on the actual plan offered by Spitzer.”
