For the life of me I can’t understand how anyone connected with the medical community could even think about embracing Hillarycare.

Only the incompetent.

you said the low is 20K, I’m telling you my husband and I together do not make that much - your figures are just wrong.

There may be some docs that clear 60K per month, but a lot of us make a lot less than 20K per month. Then figure the hours worked to make that amount, and our wages or income for the most part are not high compared to other professionals.

“I am just saying that doctors in American make more money than they let on.”

You are absolutely ignorant.

I would argue that the number of doctors who don’t let on how little they make far exceeds the number that “make more money than they let on.” Unlike lawyers, doctors have a conscience and a sense of shame. Because they make more than the average patient in front of them that they are examining, they do not readily complain that they now make five figures instead of six, while the number of six figure earners continues to increase in America, overall. It is embarrassing that my wife, the Nurse Practitioner (a masters degree), makes more than her Ivy League educated husband (with the student loans to prove it!), the Internist (nine years of training AFTER college).

In college, once I knew I was going to go to medical school, I used to joke with my roommate (who subsequently went to law school), that it would only be at 38 years old that my stream of income would “catch up” to the hypothetical plummer who went to trade school after high school.

Now that I am 39, due to the changes in costs on reimbursements, since I was 21 years old, I realize that I will NEVER catch up to the plummer.

You’re a schmuck for opening a pie-hole that deserves to be cleaned with a dog turd. The doctor-cabal for which you speak is a mystery to every physician that I know, save the ones that offer cash-on-barrel services. There aren’t too many of those who treat Diabetes, Hypertension, Dyslipidemia, and on and on... Nope. We take price-controlled Medicare at about $106 an hour. Try offering benefits to a staff of ten, and paying overhead at that rate. The last lawyer I saw charged $1500 just to smell his patented-leather strap-on.

Look, I am not going to argue with you or anybody else anymore. I am not begrudging any doctor about how much they make. This was not intended to be that. All I was saying is many, many doctors complain and say they do not make very much money.

Now, since nobody seems to believe me, especially you Mom MD, here is how I know what I am talking about. I own a contract payroll service and do payrolls for about 60 doctors and their offices, about 30 law offices, machine shops, landscaping businesses, lots of restraunts, car lots and car repair shops, as well as many, many other types of establishments. All totaled, I have approximately 500 clients with somewhere around 8,000 employees, mostly west of the Mississippi.

Once again, I do not begrudge doctors and I want the best damn doctor I can afford to work on my when needed. Believe me, I am getting to that age where I am needing more and more of their work too.

I must say that I have been with FR for many, many years and it seems in just the last year or so that any time a comment or post is made that a myriad of people come out of the woodwork and essentially call us liars. I don’t care if I say the sun comes up in the east, somebody ends up trying to make a fight out of it. FR is just not fun anymore.

I call it debate. It was only at your final post that you brought any facts to the table. We were just supposed to trust your secret knowledge? Especially in light of living the existence that you speak of every single day.

Sorry, I don’t feel bad for you, nor do I share your lamentation that FR isn’t fun for you anymore. There are plenty of sites for you to take the fun and easy route. Good luck with them.

not trying to make a fight out of it. You make a sweeping generalization that docs make 20K per month on the low end, and your series of 60 physicians is not enough to make that statement accurately
Don’t get me wrong, I dont apologize for what I make, I feel it is probably to little for what I do, weekends, nights and the hours invested. (and it is about 1/2 of what you say the minimum is)

What I don’t appreciate is people sitting back and taking shots at docs for what they make. I make a comfortable living, and no one is crying for me, nor should they. But I still struggle paycheck to paycheck, it keeps both my husband and myself working to pay for private school for my 3 kids, and there are months when we are looking for extra days to work to meet ends. Lets just brand the right villian when we are looking for a fight.
