After fuel costs, ice, paying deckhands and upkeep on a trawler...well...there’s not much money to be made these days with tasteles, rubbery Vietnamese and Thai shrimp flooding the market...but who cares..it’s cheap......i live about 10 miles from Bayou La Batre...i know a little about the biz....do we subsidize, protect?...well i don’t have an answer...but we did pretty good in this country for many a years eatin’ good ole gulf shrimp.
My wife always asks me why i don’t order shrimp when we dine out at chain restaurants...i tell her that that crap is a pale comparison to Alabama wild shrimp...i can tell the difference immediately.

No. No philosophy is needed unless you think, like the president, that America is only an idea.

As can any American with half a tastebud. Chinese or Vietnamese antibiotic riddled shrimp? That's what the globalists want you to eat, because they can make money off it.
Dump GATT and WTO rules, and codex alimentarius 'harmonization', and America's food system will be safe and free market again.

Don't eat poisonous radioactive lead-filled Chinese shrimp.

There are much more important things in life than politics..
Like fresh 10-20 count gulf shrimp wraped in bacon, grilled in a lemon butter sauce, served with a medium rare inch thick ribeye...

“i tell her that that crap is a pale comparison to Alabama wild shrimp...i can tell the difference immediately.”
Anyone who has a sense of taste, and who has tried both, would know the difference. It’s not even close...those shrimp raised in Vietnamese grey-water don’t compare.

South Carolina shrimp market recoveringAugust 07. 2007
But in late June, the federal Food and Drug Administration announced that imports of several types of Chinese seafood, including farm-raised shrimp, are being blocked at the border until tests show they are not contaminated with drugs. Since then, the prices South Carolina shrimpers have been getting for shrimp off their boats has increased as much as 30 percent, said Clay Cable, the vice president of the South Carolina Shrimpers Association.
