We also had P.E. class in addition to recess. We played “sock ‘em” (dodge ball) and other great energy burning games.

I’m no shrink, but I was a cop for thirty years. An unwashed mental had a very distinct, very strong, very unpleasant body odor compared to an unwashed sane person. They both stank, but the mental was totally different. Something was definitely out of kilter with his body chemistry.

We had recess and also played at noon. This was during a six hour day.

Now there’s a post that adds insight to this thread.

Your failure to answer it thus far speaks volumes.

I don’t know about the body emitting different odors, as you have experienced. But there is definitely a difference in body chemistry. My brain does not produce the correct amount of serotonin.

And, if I am on an antidepressant alone, my body does not process it so that it only alleviates my depression. An antidepressant will kick my system into complete mania, an uncomfortable, nervous, highly talkative, edgy, state. In those who suffer depression by itself, it only aids their depression. My brain does not process the antidepressant as others do.

Also, my sister and I have been on some of the same anti-convulsant medications. For her, it stops her epileptic seizures. For me, it is just another medication that I use to help with the bipolar disorder.

So, understanding chemistry in any illness is important. Without understanding body chemistry, and in my case brain chemistry, doctors would never be able to prescribe any medications. So, I tend to believe in going back to basics and finding the source of the problem.

You would find Peter Breggin’s books to be very interesting reading on the subject.

That may explain a lot also. He was reading before he started Kindergarden.

Read my post #145 again. Slowly.

To say there is no consensus that schizophrenia is a real psychiatric disorder is incorrect.

You and the scientoligists are doing the general population a disservice by trying to dismiss clinical psychiatry as some kind of pseudoscience. Schizophrenics can't just pull themselves up by their own bootstraps and decide to get tough and fight off their disorder untreated. And the general public can't afford to have them walking around untreated when effective treatments are available.

I recommend that you do a little research on these disorders before commenting on them further.

Did you see the word “cured” in that sentence ? Don’t go all wobbly now and insert words that aren’t there.

He spent his time researching and gaining expertise, you are interested in his knowledge, and you think you shouldn’t pay ? Are you against informing people of a information source ?

Try going to your local doctor and seeing if he’ll give you a checkup for free.

Would you work for free, or do you too need to eat and put a roof over your head ?

No I don't think I should pay, because it isn't information I want. I'm not interested in what he has to say, nor did I ever pretend that he was of any concern to me.

When I want information about medication I do indeed go to my doctor, whom I trust, and I do indeed pay for that information. There's no requirement that I pay any attention to someone that I don't know, trust, depend on, or wish to come in contact with.

Why are you so involved in pushing this towards me when I obviously have zero interest in it?

Good health to you and yours.

No one is closing any book yet. The problem Baughman has with psychiatry is that #1 they claim these disorders are a disease, much like diabetes, when clearly they are not, and #2, that psychiatry claims they can treat these so-called diseases when clearly, none of these drugs are any better than holding actions until we do know more, and they have very bad and irreversible side effects that psychiatry ignores.

His entire point, if you’d read his research instead of guessing at it, is that psychiatry claims to do things that, if they actually did, would be in the specialty of neurologisty.

Psychiatrists don’t deal with brain tumors, for example - neurologists do. If psychiatrists had any clue what the MRI and PET scans were telling them, there would be better treatments than the equivalent of “try this and we’ll see if it works”. Nor can neurologists fix brain problems wth talk theraphy, whereas that’s been a staple of psychiatry for decades/centuries.

Do you get his point now ? I suggest you read more of his stuff than the little bit that is here. If you don’t want to buy any book, here’s a start:

Answer what - a personal attack conveying no information ?

What precisely do you think I should answer that I haven’t already stated somewhere on this thread ?

Psychiatrists don’t understand brain chemistry - no one does.

What is the correct level of each of your brain chemicals ? Can they pinpoint it like they can with diabetes, for example ?

No, they can’t. All they can talk about is an “imbalance”. Ask them precisely which chemical(s) are out of balance and what are the proper numbers sometime. They don’t know.

Epilepsy is a physical illness, treatable by a neurologist.

The problems you have with the antidepressants clearly (as stated on the labels) are side effects of the drugs themselves. Go look up the side effects of Wellbutrin, for example.

"The concept of a cure as such remains controversial, as there is no consensus on the definition, although some criteria for the remission of symptoms have recently been suggested."

Yep.

So, are you about finished misinterpreting this statement, or would you like to devote a couple more posts to it?

Save me from people who go around threads throwing out irrelevant posts. Here’s some back at’cha - You must be a Scientologists because you are so adamant that others are.

Feel better now that I’ve answered you on your level ?

Why are you on this thread then ?

I’m not pushing you - I’m merely providing some facts to counter the scams of doctors (in this case psychiatrists) and pharmaceutical companies who are on a gravy train with all this, and playing games with people’s physical health.

If you choose to be uninformed and only believe what one party tells you, without looking up anything on your own, without determining for yourself that there are no other choices, that’s your choice. Personally, when it comes to dangerous drugs with consequences for the rest of my or my family’s life, I get informed and ask a lot of questions of a lot of people.
