>I’m amazed that you have such a hard time understanding someone’s desire to just obey the law.<

This dialog proves my original point. Virginians, who stand to lose a lot more because of this law, are now going to be bullied and endangered by those who have no comparable motivation not to engage in reckless driving.

I’m not normally a slowpoke, but I’m sure as heck going to avoid Governor Kaine’s speedtrap like the plague.

Please let us know the next time you drive through Virginia so we can all drive five miles under the speed limit just to piss you off

Obviously you haven't been talking about your desire to obey the law and that was my point. You wouldn't piss me off. I treat drivers like you the same as any other hazard on the road. I stay away from them

You’ve hit the nail directly!!!!

I live on a rural, but busy, road. Heading west the speed limit drops to 35 just a bit over 1/10 of a mile from me. Heading east it goes up to 45. 95% of the time vehicles passing my house heading east are doing far over 45, the State boys know it, the sherriff knows it and even the local Barney Fife knows it, but nothing is done.

The vast majority of the campers, RVs, and 18 wheelers that speed past here do not have VA tags. At least once a week I am practically run off the road by some idiot who doesn’t like me doing 45 and passes me in a no passing zone on a curve. The most recent incident was Saturday evening when I was coming home from work. The A-hole nearly put me in the ditch at the edge of my own property when he decided to pass me on the curve and didn’t realize there was a vehicle coming toward us. I heard the horn of the oncoming vehicle so was able to brake.

Very few people are affected by the laws dealing with murder, theft, abortion, etc

When there is a tax imposed for murder, theft, abortion, etc. you will perhaps then have a point.

You miss the point. Those laws apply to everyone, not just those who violate them. This law applies to everyone who is a resident of Virginia and drives, not just 2% of the people. That is the point.

Obviously you missed my point altogether.

There IS another alternative. They could reduce spending in other areas.

Remember, we are talking about politicians.

There was NEVER a budget crisis. Just over spending.

And we do have a sizable budget surplus.

I live in Newport News. We have a lot of tourists - Virginia Beach, water parks, Bush Gardens, historic areas, Bush Gardens ... Most of our “aggressive” drivers seem to have out of state plates.

For what it’s worth, there are now 117,803 signatures at Petitions Online against these confiscatory fines:

I have heard that that sort of legal defense costs $850.

Would the lawyer that pushed this law have a conflict of interest?

Nah, couldn’t be. Pure as the driven snow, I am sure.

I’ve heard the same thing, but my attitude is $850 is a heck of a sight better than $3,550 on top of everything else :)

I would think you could appeal under the equal protection clause in the Bill of Rights. Both US and Virginia constitutions have equal protection clauses.

Hopefully Front Royal will spark a larger rebellion against King Kaine. Virginia is for lovers not suckers.
