Perhaps I did jump on you a bit too harshly. I agree that there are people who will view the age difference with something more negative than idle curiosity. There are also those who will do the same with Romney's religion. For the record, I am not a Fredbot, a Mormon, nor have I "robbed the cradle", at least, not yet.

However, I have experience with both Mormons and with people in long term relationships where there is a similar age difference. There is some truth to the negative, knee jerk reactions that I see people have regarding these two situations. And, while those reactions are especially expected in politics, they are very contrary to my own experiences, thus my own knee jerk, defensive reaction.

Regarding older men having children? There are good and bad sides for both older and younger men having children. In defense of older men, in my own experience, I've seen older men with more experience, maturity, wisdom, patience and financial resources than younger men, all of which are helpful raising kids and maintaining a happy, stable home. The men I'm thinking of were/are devoted to their families, having outgrown their earlier partying days and the wandering eyes they might have had in their youth.

In the cases I've seen where this was the man's second family, they tended to avoid the mistakes they made the first time around. Often, too, because of their financial resources, these men didn't need to work excessive hours and had the time to spend with their families and were more involved with raising their kid(s).

I am generalizing, but these are my own experiences. Personally, I would take a quality childhood and teenage years with an older father over growing up with a single mom. Assuming FDT is not a lecherous old man thinking with his groin and Jeri Thompson isn't some gold digger seeking to elevate her social status and bank account, it is possible that they truly are a loving, happy couple and good and decent parents. If that's true, then their being in the White House will give those with negative knee jerk reactions some experience with the perspective that I have.

LOL!

You're right. While my initial reaction was negative about this, in considering all the other types of situations children are placed in repeatedly in our society, having an older dad - or mom - would be more advantageous than many of the currenlty socially-acceptable bad situations. Such as a single parent, divorced parents that have remarried and made more children, neglectful parents that are working all the time, and so on and so on. While a child from an older parent(s) may have some disadvantages, I now see that they may also have many possible advantages as well.
