It could be tempting to follow that reasoning, but I am staying neutral. The Shieks in al Anbar have some incentives above and beyond simply wanting to get rid of al Qaeda. Oil, eventual inclusion into a future prosperouse Iraq, peace in their province come to mind.
In the case of the Afghans, it is more, just getting rid of a bunch of people who often are lead by wild radical Arabs, who are not part of their make up. They don't like to see some asshole from Saudi Arabia hold rule over their tribal area, and take their food, rape their women and kill their children with suicide vests in the name of allah, but other then that, they for the most part by what I see, simply want to be left alone within their little world of influence, e.g. a village area.
