Depends on the district. Some districts still consider 7-8-9 middle school.

Still, a 15 year old in 8th grade would not be uncommon.

yeah, if the kid is an idiot, or the school really sucks, which most public schools do.

Several years ago, I came really close to delivering a baby from a just-turned-14 year-old "mother". She went into labor during her baby shower. When we pulled up to the housing projects, we could see a group of women carrying her down the breezeway steps from the third floor. Contractions two minutes apart, and no pre-natal care. Threw her into the ambulance and scooted (high-flow diesel therapy). She was crowning when we pulled up to the hospital. We did, however, make a successful delivery--the baby was born in the hospital, not in the ambulance.
