Could cold fusion really work?

There is a movie, The Saint, starring Val Kilmer and Elizabeth Shue. It is a take off of the old series starring Roger Moore. Cold Fusion is the subject the story revolves around. I am not a huge Val fan, but for some reason I really love this movie.
