“Gaffes”
Bush is not a British subject. He is a Free Born Citizen of the United States of America as well as the President of this great Republic. Err well we used to be great and at least we used to be a Republic.
He does not need to bow and scrape before her or anyone else. I’m sure he has provided her with exceptional courtesy and Texas Hospitality. What more does anyone need?
LMAO!!!
I wonder if Dubya said anything about her teeth?
Give me a break. What Bush bashers won’t go through to find another excuse to bash him. Besides the royals are one more vestige of ancient days and sucking off the wealth of the common people.
She strikes me as one of the few Royals that has their act together. Andrew (is that his name....the one that's going overseas) is another "good" one. The rest seem like a bunch of duds to me.
And, I love the pictures. Nothing like photographic evidence to debunk a story.
Frosty glare? I thought that was her come hither look!
It’s obvious that she likes him.
"Queen, I want you to know we've gone about 10 minutes into this already -- and I haven't said anything about that hat."
The attitude in the above article is EXACTLY why the United States of America revolted against the English monarchy!!! What pompous stupidity.......
If you haven’t seen the movie, “The Queen”, see it. It will make you proud that we (as Americans) said GET LOST AND DROP DEAD to the obsequious protocols and ceremonies given to the descendants of the Tudors (”You may now kiss The Queen’s hand, blah, blah, blah....)
God bless our wonderful, charming President Bush.
Is that a wink or a squint from standing in the sunlight?
The queen can grimace, glare, or just go the hell home. I hope we send her a bill.
You know Your Majesty, if I close one eye you look like Betty Ford.
The british media seem to be suffering from golden broomstick rectal upward insertion syndrome.
US citizens do not have royalty to titles of nobility. (ie ronald reagan was “knighted” but did not use the honoraria “sir”)
To british media: get a life.
good for bush...welcome to earth queenie...
From Barbara Bush’s book A Memoir, page 414. Completely twisted by this article. This lunch was on May 14, 1991:
“We had a quiet lunch with HM Queen Elizabeth II, HRH... I jokingly told Her Majesty that I had put our Texas son as far away from her as possible at the table and told him that he was not allowed to say a word to her or, for that matter, to our only daughter’s beau, who was coming to the dinner that night. She asked him why that was. Was he the black sheep in the family? George W. allowed as how he guessed that was true. (Not true at all.) Then she said, “Well, I guess all families have one.” George W., of course, asked her if thier family had one and who it was. She laughed and asked me why I thought him so dangerous. I told her that he said what he felt and besides that, he threatened to wear cowboy boots in the evening to the State Dinner. I told her that they had Texas flags on them or GOD BLESS AMERICA. She asked him which pair he was going to wearthat night and he said, “Neither. Tonight’s pair will say ‘GOD SAVE THE QUEEN’.”
What this writer is woefully ignorant of is that here in America, we have policy that Mickey Rooney is to kiss the hand of any royalty visiting this sovereign nation -- and to refuse this honor is not only an affront, but an act of war!
And don't call Mickey Rooney's hand a paw.
Honestly.
Now, I know a good many people are going to say "What's the big deal? The Queen is nothing special. We don't kowtow to royalty here in the United States." My answer is, "That's beside the point." The point is not that the lady being winked at (or massaged, as the case may be) is anything special. The point is that a gentleman never behaves in such a familiar way with a lady (much less a head of state!) in a formal, business, or other public setting. I'm sure the President was just trying to be informal and the wink was meant as a friendly gesture towards the Queen. But for God's sake, President Bush is a grown man and the leader of the most powerful nation on Earth, and he ought to know better than to treat a lady any lady like that in public. HM Queen Elizabeth II is his mother's age does he wink at his mom's lady friends, too? My guess is that if he did, Barabara Bush would slap the taste out of his mouth.
No matter what one's opinion of the British monarchy might be, it is obvious to all people with even the most basic knowledge of manners that one does not treat the Queen of England, the Chancellor of Germany, or any other female head of state like she's the Hog Queen at some county fair. It's jut plain rude, and it makes all of us look rude by association. I mean, it's bad enough that Americans (and we Texans in particular) have a global reputation as illiterate, shit-booted hicks with no manners to speak of. The last Texan to sit behind the Big Desk, the odious Lyndon Baines Johnson, was such a boor that our state and nation has yet to live down his reputation for uncouth behavior. Is it too much to ask that the current President of the United States a well-known resident of the Lone Star State put on his city manners while he's on the job?
She’s NOT his queen.
Loosen up.
Folks! Folks!
Stop with the jealousy!
Once we elect Hillary!, we’ll have our own Queen ...
Problem solved.
