Can these wicked folks get any more evil?
It could've been. Felos was smart, he got what Michael got before, too. That is reflected in the fact that Michael took out two mortgages totaling $210,000 after Felos filed the lien. If we knew what Michael made on his book that would pretty much say what was left in Terri's trust fund.
Baby Emilio has died of natural causes.
.............................
AUSTIN (AP) - A toddler whose mother fought to continue his medical care while doctors sought to end the life-sustaining measures has died of natural causes. 19-month-old Emilio Gonzales died in his mother's arms last night at Children's Hospital of Austin. Emilio had been on a respirator since December and his illness set in motion a debate over who should decide the course of end-of-life care. He was believed to have Leigh's disease, which destroys brain functions. Doctors said there was not hope of recovery for Emilio. The hospital wanted to invoke a state law allowing it to stop life support after a 10-day notice for patients deemed medically futile. But Emilio's mother, Catarina Gonzales, contested the diagnosis. Gonzales has said she knew her son would die one day but wanted doctors to continue care. She said her son smiled and turned his head when he heard voices. A hearing on Emilio's fate had been set for May 30.

.....................The hospital said his condition deteriorated Saturday afternoon. He then died sometime between 7 and 8 pm on Saturday at Children's Hospital with his mother, Catarina, by his side. He was not removed from life support. KXAN spoke with Catarina on Saturday, and she is understandably distraught. Emilio was the center of a life-support debate. His mother didn't want to have him removed from life support, while the hospital argued that the life-support machines were actually hurting Emilio. The matter was still working its way through the legal system at the time of Emilio's death. The case was supposed to have gone in front of a judge in recent weeks, but the hospital asked for a continuance, so the hearing was rescheduled for May 30. None of that matters now. "The natural progression of Emilio's disease overcame him, and he died of natural causes in his mother's arms. And God took him, not man," said Jerri Ward, Catarina Gonzales' attorney...............................

................Chinese blogger seeking right to die
A young woman with muscular dystrophy is the center of an ethical debate in China. She has used her blog to ask the National People's Congress to legalize her right to die.
There is no right-to-life movement in China like the one that sought to keep brain-damaged Terri Schiavo alive two years ago.
"China's atheism education, people's practical mind-set and poverty all add up to a willingness to accept euthanasia," said Zhang Zanning, a professor of medical law. More on A4.

Citing the Iraq war as the "real wallop" and detecting "a perfect storm in the political season," Joseph Cella, president of Fidelis, a Michigan-based Catholic traditional-values group, told The Washington Times that the 2006 election was "a real shot across the bow for social conservatives and the Republican Party." Mrs. Wetzstein catalogued the cascading events that contributed to the electoral rout: the Katrina relief debacle; the perception of overreaching in the Terri Schiavo right-to-die case; scandals involving prominent Christian leaders Ralph Reed and the Rev. Ted Haggard and numerous Republican representatives (including Mark Foley's sex scandal with former congressional pages); and a book by the former deputy director of the White House's faith-based initiative office charging that President Bush's policies were more sop than strategy.

Current events also can affect how employees use their plans. "After Sept. 11 we saw more people interested in creating wills," said Jen Porter, a spokeswoman for Des Moines-based ARAG North America Inc., one of the largest national providers of prepaid legal services. In the wake of news coverage of Terri Schiavo, the woman at the center of a bitter right-to-die battle in Florida, Porter said, ARAG fielded more requests for living wills.

Would Florida Republicans prefer Brit Hume or Sean Hannity? Those are the likely moderators for Florida's national televised Republican presidential debate in October, state GOP chairman Jim Greer told party activists Saturday. The Fox News debate is part of the Oct. 20-21 "Presidency IV" event in Orlando that's shaping up to be a big deal.

Huckabee...Huckabee recounted what went through his mind listening to Paul during that debate: "The Republicans are supposed to have a big tent. But this is Bozo's big top, and there's the side show. Good God, give us a break."

On government intervention in the Terri Schiavo case: "I had no problem with the state getting involved because it's one of their citizens. But I wasn't sure how the federal government had a role in all that."

American Christians will go round and round forever as to what Christ would have thought about stem cell research, same-sex marriage and the military-industrial complex; but at least the left wing maintains a measure of agnosticism toward the acolytes in blue suits. When George W. Bush and Tom DeLay came to work on a Sunday to save Terry Schiavo from her husband, the righteous right was one mass straight face. When Bill Clinton and Newt Gingrich go about with marital sacrilege baggage, the latter has a date as commencement speaker at Jerry Falwell's college. The former has eternity to wait for his absolution and benediction.

May Catarina Gonzales (and the rest of the family), find comfort in the fact that God, not an ethics committee, decided when it was time to send the angels to bring Baby Emilio home.
Condolences to Baby Emilio's family!

Yes. I was being a teensy bit facetious. Nevertheless, the whole handling of Terri's trust fund reeks. When the judge starts sealing records, everybody thinks the worst -- with good reason. When the spending of those funds amounts to legal embezzlement -- "fraud on the court," in Wendy Murphy's observation -- everybody KNOWS something is rotten.
Let's step back a few paces. Michael himself got a large sum for "loss of consort" from the malpractice cases. By some reports it was upwards of $300,000 after taxes and legal fees (trial lawyers don't come cheap). The earlier settlement with the other doctor simply disappeared. Michael may well have walked off with another six-figure sum with that.
In other words, Michael made out like gangbusters, but never spent one dime of "his" money on the legal fees to kill Terri. It was always Terri's trust fund that they raided. And it is Terri's trust fund/estate that Felos is suing now. Why isn't he suing Michael directly?
The floor is open for brainstorming.
God be with you, little guy. There are far worse fates than dying in your mother’s arms.
It has become a mantra. They recite it over and over without thought and without questioning the premises. I hate to have to say this, but if anybody is going to shoot down the mantra, it is we who know the facts. The reporters aren't going to change their ways. They are lazy. They love their ignorance; it saves them from having to work. We have to get the facts out -- at least unless the money dispute between Felos and Michael Schiavo widens into public warfare.
We need a new book on Terri that treats her "collapse" as a probable crime. Where are you, Dominick Dunne?
That picture just makes me sick to my stomach.
How is this possible? Felos ASSURED us that Terri's estate was almost gone. He told us that over and over. Michael was not killing Terri for her money, he said, there was no money. If there IS all this money, isn't it pretty likely that Michael WAS killing her for her money after all?
OMG, there's still money? And that demon Felos is after it still??? I knew there was evil in this world but that is beyond anything imaginable. It wasn't enough they tortured and murdered her, now they won't even let her rest in peace or let her family heal the least little bit.
Yes, I saw on the news that Emilio died last night and knew y’all would have it here. So sad. Prayers to the mom.
We can be thankful Emilio died on God’s terms, not at the hands of man, nor by decree of law.
What you said.
