A little CYA from the President of Duke University. He knows he's on the hook, along with 88 members of his faculty, in the pending civil suit. Time to make nice. It's a day late and a dollar short, if you ask me.

No, he’s not even making nice. He claims that he supported the presumption of innocence from the beginning, but that didn’t prevent him from suspending the students, firing the coach and opening an investigation into the effects of athleticism on campus (in other words investigation the macho culture of helmet sports). The real investigation should have been into the hate mongering of the campus multi-culturists which stirred up all the insecurities of imagined victimhood among the minorities and drove the rush to judgment as representative of so-called privileged, white male culture.

He should offer to trade places with the fired Lacrosse coach. The greater loss would be to whatever team Broadhead ends up coaching.

How about an apology for the reprehensible way you and your faculty treated these innocent young men, their coach and the lacrosse program???

This dude is a weasel. If it were me I would sue him, the 88, the county, the DA and anyone else I could think of to sue.

And what was the coach’s name? Where is he working now?

I was just looking on FR to see what has been posted about this case. I think it closely parallels the Dirty dishonest prosecutor of Ignacio Ramos and Jose Campean, brave border patrol agents. They didn’t let the evidence in their trial, plus they were prosecuted with lies. Glad these La Crosse boys got OFF. Our justice system is so messed up when Martha Stewart goes to prison for lying and Bill and Hillary Clinton don’t. Plus not to mention OJ, Robert Blake, Ted Kennedy, and others who SHOULD be in prison now.

“the presumption of innocence”
Once upon a time there was the presumption of innocence in the American judicial system. But one day, when everyone was happily singing “innocent until proven guilty”, the big bad feminazis slipped a note to the lawmakers, and from that day forward the the presumption of innocence was no longer given to males; instead the presumption of guilt was introduced: it was no longer necessary to have proof - the seriousness of the charges was all that mattered. Feminazis throughout the country were happy. Innocent men had to pay big legal fees and some went to jail.

Brodhead is brave alright. No skin off his nose.

Hey, Dick, how about the professor who FAILED the lacrosse players after the "incident". Are you going to give them the same treatment as you gave the coach?

Or do you only fire people for appearance sake - and let actual wrongdoing go unpunished if you can get away with it?

What a hypocrite.

Well, I've read most of the posts. I DO think Nifong was reprehensible in his handling of the case.

I DO realize that the 3 young men were innocent of the charges made by the stripper and promulgated against them by Nifong.

BUT

They WERE guilty of being underage and consuming alcohol, if we understand what was actually going on in that frat house. I don't think that they denied consuming alcohol and the schools rules concerning such behavior, by itself, COULD have prompted SOME of the actions of the university.

I DO however, concur with the overall view of the posters to this thread that Duke, and most especially the 'gang of 88' behaved VERY poorly where the unfounded allegations of the stripper were concerned.

Any bets that when the heat gets 'turned up' Brodhead switches to the 'it was the alcohol' defense for HIS actions?

I bought a Duke Lcrosse T-shirt yesterday.

And if I were one of those students, once Duke starts scrambling to settle out of court, I would make damn sure that one of the things I get is a prominent building on campus named after me [in big gold letters]. Preferrable the one holding the majoriy of classes taught by the 88.

I hope that the wrongly indicted team members collect some major money from Duke University and the 88 fools who placed the prejudicial ad denouncing them in the newspaper.

It gives a new definition to “class-action suit”. Normally, lots of people sue one entity. Here, three people should be suing a large gaggle of nattering folks.

From the outset, I have been careful to note that these students were entitled to the presumption of innocence and I looked to the legal system to determine the merit of the charges.

A bald-face lie.

What a total crock of crap.
The gang of 88, the two strippers, the "investigators" this weasel and the entire DA department along with all their families should be exiled....they can all write books about American witch hunt victims living in some gulag.ABC can hype it, Disney can follow up with a movie.
I hope the falsely accused end up owning that left wing nest......Now let’s move on to Brown University, home for "special students" only.
