Good catches.

I hadn’t know that Kerik was using 9/11 recovery donations to pay for his adulterous activities.

The reason he was against Pataki’s tax plan was that he believed it would only increase local taxes.

Thanks for the correction that Pataki was going to raise state taxes. Now, you are correct, that is what Giuliani thought. A good conservative, however, knows to discount the liberal argument against tax cuts that they force other levels of government to raise taxes. Taxes should be cut everywhere and always.

There are a lot of Lurkers (unregistered FReepers) who read the threads. So, the Spam is useful.

You are right, Thanks.

Your analysis makes sense. However, a true conservative candidate for the Repubs means the Repubs will be handed one of the biggest defeats ever, giving the DEMS a field day of “we have the mandate of the people”.

Why will a true conservative candidate be handed defeat in a big way? Because the word ‘conservative’ now means two things: 1. Going to war overseas, and 2. Desire to overturn Roe vs Wade. Even moderate voters overwhelmingly reject these two ‘philosophies’, particularly ‘Roe’.

According to Orin Hatch of Utah, abortion is the single defining issue for voters today and even moderate ones come down on the side of preserving Roe.

Do I like this? No, I find it to be a sad, sad statement on the mind set of the American people, particularly the casual attitude towards abortion. I happen to respect Orin Hatch and his calm, cool, understated assessment of the situation and for me personally, dealing with the potential reality of the DEMS entrenched for what could be a decade or longer is a frightening thought.

I sincerely hope that you are correct and there is a sudden upsurge in conservatism that puts a true conservative in the W.H. Time will tell.

“.....So you’re on Bot-duty now FO? Looks like Katie-O got burned out earlier today, admitted that for all of her opposition to abortion, that she was going to give a ‘pro-choice’ candidate like Rudy a ‘chance’.

Katie sold out for sure, how about you?....”

lmao, who says I got “burned out?” That’ll be the day. And, I don’t call it “selling out.” I call it being an intelligent, free thinking Republican who doesn’t believe in beating the candidates over the head with phony litmus tests that they all lie about anyway. Except Rudy, who has been consistent and refuses to flip flop on his social policies.

So you endorse Rudy’s view that the murder of an unborn child isn’t as serious as murdering a child already living?

Hey, nice try. But, as usual, you misstate Rudy's position. Like many in the Republican party, Mr. Giuliani doesn't like abortion, hates it, wishes it had never been passed into law. But, ultimately, he believes it's a woman's right to choose. In a perfect world she would choose adoption instead of killing her unborn child. It's not a perfect world.

You obviously missed this quote from your boy:

“See, I don’t equate abortion with murdering a child, which I guess puts me in conflict with the teaching of the Catholic church...If you agree with the church, there’s no difference between murdering a one-year-old and eliminating a fetus – it’s the same act. There is a moral consequence to the elimination of a fetus, but it’s not the same thing as murder.”

“The guy is a liberal schmuck and you’re schlepping his BS.”

The b.s. is coming from you. You may not like the facts, but they are still the facts. If you want to defeat the Dems, you’ve got to win some blue and purple votes. That’s Politics 101. It may make you feel good temporarily to vote for an ideologically perfect candidate—but he will still wind up as a loser in ‘08.

“You claimed that Giuliani betrayed Republicans bacause Petaki intended to raise taxes. In fact, Giuliani endorsed a leftist Democrat for governor over Republican candidate Petaki because Petaki intended to cut taxes.”

I think I addressed this in a prior post. Giuliani has said Pataki’s plan would have raised LOCAL taxes—while cutting them on the state level. To appreciate this, you have to know that New York City has a larger population than the rest of the state combined. Rudy saw the plan as working against his own strategic planning.

I couldn’t agree more with you about how Conservativism has come to be defined recently and if that is the perception that voters have of the Conservative candidate, then yes, the result would be as you proclaim.

However, I believe, someone like Fred Thompson, has dynamic enough personality and is likeable enough and has GREAT sense of humor, that he can revive the image of Conservatism.

The thing I lament most about Republican failure when they had power is that they allowed the people to view themselves as corrupt and equally irresponsible in wasting money as Dems. That is a huge loss. Even when Republicans were not so likeable, they always had this image of Patriotism, some class, and that they would guard your money with their life. They let that huge advantage slip away.

Therefore, I am proposing a defensive move. First part of that is to recognize, we do not even have a PRAYER on two coasts. Those guys can not wait to go and vote anti-Repulican again. Even if Hitlary ran as a Republican, she would lose in North East and West Coast.

Second, if we don’t put South as our number one priority, and if we manage to lose it, we would become sort of political orphans. The way electoral votes line up, if we keep our base and have a dynamic enough candidate to win battle-ground states like Iowa, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan, New Mexico and Florida, we would be fine. Our vote margin perhaps would get hammerred on the two coasts.

With an east coast liberal Pubbie as our Presidential nominee, we would be risking EVEN Texas and I am not even trying to exaggerate. If those guys think that there is no difference between Pubbies and Dems, then they may go back to their original roots - Democratic party.

Got to draw the battle line, hammer away at National Security and refuse to let Iraq be defined as failure (and also do something about it so we don’t look stupid) and BRING BACK FISCAL CONSERVATISM. Even more importantly, we can not forget about ‘Family Values’ and those values extend beyond Roe Vs Wade. Nothing would unite our base, more than our ability to draw their attention to what our opponents values really are.

Tax cuts are not enough to lay claim to mantle of Conservatism. As a matter of fact, if they continue to spend and outspend Dems, then Tax cuts would eventually become detrimental to economy.

Pubbies waited 40 years and then gave it all away by letting their principles slip away.
