I agree.
I agree.
I also don’t think the pro-life movement would give up if a less than conservative Republican were elected in November.
The general election is a zero-sum game.
Even a 12-year-old who votes on American Idol knows that if he really wants to knock out a particular singer he can't stand, he must VOTE FOR THE OTHER GUY.
And that's just the beginning of the impact your vote or failure to vote has on the nation.
Who do you support in the GOP presidential primaries?

Among FR members, Rudy has 9.8% support.
An absurd statement, given that neither party has nominated anyone yet.
Ok, I took your quiz.
400,000 government jobs are at stake, according to you, which will either be controlled by the Democratic Party or the Republican Party, and that has a pervasive influence on American life. That’s really the conclusion of your quiz.
So, what it comes down to, then, in casting my one measly little vote, is a 1/60 millionth or so influence on the outcome of 400,000 jobs.
That’s clear.
Now let me be clear.
Abortion is murder. I oppose murder. I support the Republican party, even though I think Republican economic and tax policies are not as good as Democratic economic policies, because the Republican Party has been sticking up for the rights of the unborn for 30 years. THAT is crucial.
Now let’s add to that the border and gay marriage. I don’t really care about guns either way, but I do think that if I wanted to get one to defend myself, I should be able to without having to break the law.
The Republicans are threatening to run a guy who (D) is for gun restrictions, (C) favors gay marriage, and (B) doesn’t want to close the border. And, most importantly, the GOP wants to throw 30 years of pro-life by the wayside and kick me in the groin because the leading candidate wants to be pro-choice, and will not knuckle under and toe the party line in order to be acceptable.
I have my 1/60 millionth vote of influence. If I vote for the Republican, I get Republican economics, which are lousy, Republican tax policies, which suck, an open border, gay marriage, gun control AND I get to support a guy who not only favors murder, but wants to subsidize it.
I could just not vote, but you say that’s the same as voting for Hillary. Suppose I do, then, not just sit it out, but I vote for Hillary. I get the same murder (although she has not yet said she supports public funding of abortion like Giuliani has), I get gun control. I get gay marriage. I get an open border. And I get fairer tax policies and better economic policies.
Gee, that’s not a hard choice, policy-wise.
I also get to kick the Republican party right back in the groin, and all those 400,000 GOP jobseekers whose desire to hold power and collect a government paycheck depend on my little 1/60-millionth vote share, combined with lots others...well, they don’t get jobs.
Why should they get what they want if I don’t get what I want on my Alpha issue?
You did clarify things for on one point. When I really think about it, Hillary Clinton, bad as she is, is a BETTER candidate for what I believe in than Giuliani is. You also highlighted something: what really counts is the whole patronage train. There are 400,000 eager Republicans out there who want jobs, money and power, and who are depending on winning the election to get it.
If they choose Rudy Giuliani to run, and Giuliani will not renounce his support for abortion, I will be pleased to do my itty-bitty part to make sure that all 400,000 of those GOP jobseekers are disappointed.
As I have said to others: either way, the babies die, but I will suffer a whole lot less under Hillary than GOP partisans will.
So, you guys can either back down and accept a candidate who will not support abortion, or I am perfectly willing to scuttle the boat we’re all sailing in. No games. Just reality. Give me what I want, or go down with the ship. I have a life preserver: I PREFER Democratic economics and tax policies, but I hate abortion. You put up a pro-abortion Republican, and your ship goes down, and you don’t have a life preserver. You really SUFFER under the Democrats, because you hate their tax policies and their economics.
I vote for the GOP on morals and family values issues. You put up an abortion loving jackass like Giuliani, you do that to me after all these years, just to spite me and people like me, and I will vote for Hillary just to spite you. Because those 400,000 Democrats earnestly working on their economic policies will do a better job than the Ayn Rand party, and the Democrat social policies won’t be any WORSE than paying for abortion with public money and supporting gay marriage and leaving the border open.
Thanks for your post. You clarified things. If the GOP runs Rudy, I thought I was sitting out. If the GOP runs Rudy, I’m voting for Hillary. She’s the better candidate.
And she'll last less than one term in office, as angry conservatives take to Washington D.C. streets with pitchforks and torches.
“And she’ll last less than one term in office, as angry conservatives take to Washington D.C. streets with pitchforks and torches.”
What?
If Hillary Clinton is elected, she’s President, and nobody is going to rebel, go into the streets, do anything like that. Them’s the rules: if you lose, you’re the LOYAL opposition. Resort to violence because of a lost election and you turn into a “domestic enemy of the Constitution”, and all those law enforcement and military people out there will fulfill their oaths by making sure that you don’t threaten the duly elected President. If that’s Hillary, it’s Hillary, maybe for 8 years. Maybe for 20, if we amend the Constitution.
Me?
I’d prefer the GOP run a pro-life conservative Borderbot who doesn’t like gay marriage, so that we don’t have to go through all that.
The reason I will never vote for Julie-Annie is right here... (and his sidekicks Dennis Miller and Chuck Scummer can go to hell too...)
Nope. No traction here. Not Rudy, not now, not never.
Abortion is just a cover-up issue, a huge distraction away from all of the OTHER ISSUES...
War?
Borders?
Invasion?
2nd Amendment?
You get the picture?
Julie-Annie is not to be trusted...
Britain: *Stamp Tax, tea tax, forcing people to house soldiers, and so on and so forth* Them's the rules.
13 Colonies: *rebels*
Britain: OH NO YOU DIDN'T. *fights*
13 Colonies: *fights back*
Britain: *is beaten*
America (formerly the 13 Colonies): OH YES WE DID.
Things might or might not happen. Let's not risk it by running a liberal on the Republican ticket.
Buying off principles is a conservative value now?
Good luck with the blood money.
wouldntbprudent seems to get no traction shilling for liberals here. I wonder why?
Nor mine! Nor that of most of the 70+ million gun owners in this country.
I’m with V13 on this one. I would be the loyal opposition. But I’d promise to be very vocal. Even hinting about something otherwise could bring the attention of the secret service. It’s happened before on Free Republic, ask Gonzo or Grassontop. There have probably been others.
“And the other dangerous thing about him is his open border, pro-illegal stance this country cannot survive with the continued open-border scenario.”
No more “open borders sluts” for THIS conservative!!
Couldn’t agree more. I said it before but I’ll say it one more time. Before I’d vote for Rooty I’d nail my whanger to the chair and set the house on fire.
Do you happen to know the disposition of this suit?
