I know this is silly, but this really tickled my funny bone. What happens to people when they become famous that turns them into jerks? If I worked a party of 12 Hollywood people for several hours and I got a freaking DVD as a gift (the actor is making an assumption the waiter even likes the show) is so funny. It's almost like he's playing the part of the ass he plays in the show. I've seen it once and that was more than enough for me.
I would pay big bucks to see a video of the server throwing the DVD at Piven.

Look I'm a fairly large tipper but no one is required to leave a tip and this waiter probably didn't deserve one. Who the heck is Jeremy Piven?

What an arrogant putz. I swear he's gay anyway. Forty, never married. I read an article while in my doctor's office...some fashion rag, and Piven is obsessed with his wardrobe. I never see a lady on his arm.
To: Hildy
" Piven paid up and left the waiter a copy of his Entourage series DVD as a tip." That's funny, but it's inexcusable. Servers rely on tips because they don't make a lot of money to begin with, as you know. Also, servers share a part of their tips with the bus boys, thus if a server gets a bad tip, or no tip, he's basically in the hole.

What happens to people when they become famous that turns them into jerks? I'm betting he always was a jerk.

==The outraged server threw the DVD at the celebrity diner
Just a guess.

That would be funny, since one of his first roles was Ellen's friend on her sitcom. But I've read the opposite, that he's a manwhore.

Either the service was bad, or he's a jerk. It's a coin flip.

If I showed up @ a restaurant w/ 12 people and no reservation -- I'd not only tip well, but I'd most likely forgive the staff if the service was not quite up to par.

Just a guess. Let's see, a party of 12 at Nobu. Conservatively, the bill was at least $1,200, and the arrogant prick leaves a DVD for a tip. They want to ban Piven from Nobu. I'm not hearing that the waiter got fired.
To: LexBaird

I want to know where waitresses and servers get their sense of entiltlement. They all think they are owed a tip, when in reality there wages are paid by the people they work for. If they don't want to do their job for the existing pay then they should quit and go elsewhere to work. Tipping is robbery as far as I am concerned. If a tip is part of the meal it should be displayed in the price and inculded when you pay the bill, otherwise forget it. No one ever tipped me on the jobs I did, even though they benefited and served other peoples needs.
I know lots of people think we should tip, I don't, and I applaud this guy for leaving a DVD, maybe the service was terrible, maybe he just didn't want to be robbed beyond the exorbitant price this restaurant charges for meals. Either way it is his right and for a server to get mad because he wasn't tipped is pure BS.

I'm with you. People who do fine dining will call a manager before going an entire meal with service which is unworthy of a tip on a $1000 check.

Thank you.
That is the first part of this whole story that requires common sense.
I am glad that he and his arrogance have been banned from the chain of restaurants.
He better learn to cook at home if he is going to continue down this path.
I have had occasions when large groups want to go eat in a rather spontaneous fashion, and I have made sure that we overtipped for the total inconvenience of the evening, regardless of the restaurant.
To: Hildy
I wonder how much the waiter can get for it on e-bay? 25 Cents?
