Would you vote for a Giuliani/Thompson ticket?

Look, I'm voting R regardless. I won't countenance keeping Democrats in power any more than I have to. That being said, Rudy has not convinced me he's the conservative we need in the White House.

Mitt has done a decent job selling himself (and please, that is WHAT all of them have to do)...and Fred Thompson does have a chance at my support.

I love Newt, but I don't think he's electable...just doesn't have it in the image department. Of course if he's the nominee, I'll vote for him.

Reagan was an awesome candidate for conservatives because he looked happy most of the time, he believed in America, and he exuded a positive point of view. Thank God he was also conservative...because I remember a smiling, happy, cheerful lookin' candidate who didn't have a conservative bone in him: Jimmy Carter. He got elected and it was a national nightmare.

Same with Clinton--he was pragmatic enough to support free trade and he was right about Iraq, even though now he pretends like he never said anything about it...but he, too, had a smiling image and was elected twice (by pluralities of the electorate and not majorities, though).

I'm certain Thompson, despite his rough exterior, could promote a positive image. Rudy is doing that too--but he isn't as conservative as I'd like. Mitt is also winning in the image department, and I do believe him when he says he's become more socially conservative over the past few years.

Just my opinion, probably more than you wanted, and I am flexible: heck, the primaries are MONTHS away still. :)

I'll vote for no ticket which includes Guiliani. He's a pro abortion, pro gay marriage, gun-grabbing, open borders liberal. As mayor of New York, he refused to let his cops cooperate with federal immigration officers. Since illegal alien Muslims were in part reponsible for the first World Trade Center attack, his pandering to illegal foreigners was a criminal dereliction of duty. His anti-terror credentials are paper thin. He fawned over IRA supporters to pander to the Irish American vote in NYC.
I'd vote for Thompson but not in tandem with Rudy.

There's an awful lot of folks around these parts,
that if they found themselves dying of starvation,
would apparently turn down a perfectly good meal,
because it was not their favorite food.

I wanna vote Republican, too! But that ballot has a Dimocrat at the top and only one Republican on it. Give us another choice! No fair splitting the ticket this way.

I merely asked a further question. The thread posited a Guiliani/Thompson ticket. It is certainly not the ticket I would like to see the party putting up for election, and I won't be voting for Rudy in the primaries. Nonetheless, I haven't gotten the Republican candidate I wanted since Reagan. For my part, if I have to make this choice, I'll hold my nose and vote for Rudy. I was curious if others REALLY meant it when they said no, or were only saying "No, No, No! Don't put Rudy on top of the ticket just because we are scared of Hillary"

I agree that anointing Rudy the candidate just because many perceive him to have a better chance is copping out on the whole primary process. I hate the fact that in recent years our party in particular has pretty much handed the nomination to whichever candidate seemed likely to raise the most money.

As for two crappy choices, it's hard to get away from that since we know we are ALWAYS going to start out with ONE crappy choice.
