Great...so will you be the first person on this thread to admit that it would be OK for Ann Coulter to refer to Barack Obama as an "N-word"?
And neither do a lot of so called Republicans...
And if someone who didn't like him called him a faggot, that would have been offensive to him. And possibly to you.
And, as you said, we're talking about calling a straight man a faggot -- which is CERTAINLY fighting words, and a silly, childish thing to do.
Ann goofed this time. No big deal -- except this is exposing some C folks as amazing apologists.
I don't think it is for those who have reputations as caustic, comic commentators.
Is that remotely as indulting as calling someone a faggot? If my daughter told my son he smelled like a chimp, I'd laugh. If she called him a faggot, I'd punish her. And he, though I'm sure he's a heterosexual, does not have a track record of 29 years of faithfulness to a woman. Nor does he have a track record as a Marxist ambulance chaser that is fair game.
Lyndon Johnson, Bill Clinton, Robert Byrd, Ted Kennedy, John Kerry, Mrs. Clinton, Raul Emanuel, etc, etc, etc. Mean and nasty people win elections all the time!!! That's my point.
Let me re-phrase. People don't vote for people that they perceive to be mean and nasty.
So the more people you convince that you are mean and nasty because you use vulgarities and insults, the more people whose votes you are writing off.
I would never restrict her from saying what she thought. I might not like it and I may boo it but I'm not going where you are going. What other words or phrases should we outlaw or ban?
Are you the only guy on this thread to recognize your "dilema" has no "horns?"
Ever hear of DU or Daily KOSS or Moveon.org?
Pull your head out of your posterior.
That's not vulgar, is it?
Because she was discussing politics, a candidate who has the behavior and appearance of a faggot, PC word censorship, and not life in the inner cities. The blacks in the inner cities call each other the "n" word all the time. They don't seem to be at all offended by it.
Only "Crackers" are forbidden to use the "n" word, even though the description describes many of the white democrats in the government housing complexes as well.
It's just a word, but it's a word that has been "censored" by the PC police. It can be used on any race, but has been chosen as a "forbidden" word by the left wing lingual dictates.
Coulter fired at a barn door at point blank range, hit nothing but air, and there are Freepers all over this thread treating her like Annie Oakley. We're supposed to be the smart ones, remember?
a dictionary might help clear up your ignorance.
[Origin: 164050; < F nègre < Sp negro black]
Claiming the N word has nothing to do with blacks is beyond disingenuous. The word is rooted in "black." Other uses stem from the primary and original derogatory use.
Ah, no. Even if it was said with and obviously hateful way, at best it would have received a FU fag right back.
A straight person being called a fag means pussy (to be crude about it). At least here in New England where Ann is from. It's always been such. Maybe where you are from it's different, I'm willing to accept that.
Ann's point wasn't about Edwards - it was about our out-of-control PC culture that obviously so many on the Right have bought in to as well.
Thank you, back!
Yes. Do you think they vote for the candidates they do because they consider them to be mean and nasty?
Anyway, citing DU as a source is not exactly a good way to argue about what normal people are like. I meant normal people.
When you consider all that's bad about Edwards, Coulter was shooting at a barn door and missed by several feet. But there are freepers treating her like Annie Oakley.
You can be vulgar, if you want. I'm vulgar often enough. But I'm not doing it on stage at political conferences.
The point is, maybe being vulgar isn't a great idea if you're ultimately trying to win votes. I've never seen it help the left. It's the when the left lose that they get driven to childish insults.
If you're just engaging in self-promotion, then go ahead and be vulgar at a political conference. You'll get the attention you want.
So you have a problem with a particuar word, not offending people by calling them names. I get it now. That makes so much sense.
Is it your belief that no homosexuals have voted for Republican candidates? Ever?
Would you rather have, say a few hundred homosexual voters in Florida pull the Bush lever or have Gore as President?
Thus, its not enough for Mungit to be boorish about showering with faggots. It has to be a consequence of family dysfunction, of deeply suppressed anxieties, of fear and self-degradation.
Like Steyn, Coulter is a caustic, comic commentator. There is only one Steyn, though. He is the premier writer among current columnists.
