I agree... it's a conservative sight. That definition becomes all the more important if a liberal is running for president as a Republicans.

Not that I'm naming any names....

So Johnie...what are you saying...you want everyone to leave who doesn't subscribe 100% to that "mission statement?" Be honest.

Not at all and I've already answered that question above. A homogeneous site is in no one's interest. As a matter of fact, I consider the site to be more homogeneous that it was 7 years ago. I posed the questions more the purpose of discussion since a lot of posters seem to think that the more liberal republican candidates threaten the core of conservatism, or rather, I should say they threaten the conservative nature of the Republican Party. I also wonder how prevalent the viewpoints here would be among conservatives not posting to this site, i.e., does that fact that some posters consider voting third party reflect a national opinion to do the same.

As someone said, it's whatever the owner pleases. However, conservatism has a rich and long history. Many of those who ride under the conservative flag on their way to fire at others here couldn't begin to articulate the pillars of conservative thought, including the role of religion.

"Sometimes I think it's most accurately described as a "Bush site" these day. It was once conservative, however."

Where have you been the past two or three weeks? Hardly any mention of Bush here lately. This has become one of the biggest propagandist site for those who are trying to cram a liberal down our throats. And in case you missed it, I'm talking about Rudy.

Guess we'll wait to see who's left to donate at the next Freepathon in April.

I don't know what you mean when you say "we had no trouble defining ourselves." There have been tremendous arguments over a number of issues on this site over the years long before Rudy Giuliani became a presidential candidate. And no one -- no one -- holds the corner on "who is" or "who is not" a conservative.

Sheesh, Hildy, one of us is gonna have to leave, if that's the criteria ... disagreeing most of the time I mean. I'm not leavin' and I don't 'spect you are either. Are we ruining FR?

To suggest that we will fade into obscurity just because the RINOS leave, I don't see it happening.

FR or the Republican Party. If the latter, you can find ACU rankings for the House and Senate.

We all agree that John McCain, at an 83 lifetime is a RINO. Most would figure Santorum at 88 is a conservative. Let's be generous and keep McCain, and every Senator with an 83 or better rating.

Outstanding, we've got 38 Senators. Only have to throw out a dozen or so to purify ourselves. Not bad, the GOP will make that up in no time. Do your own numbers for the House.

It will have an impact.

"How do you vote 'the party' if you are independent?"

It means that I don't just look at the candidate to see which one is more conservative, I also want to know that the candidate belongs to the more conservative party.

In the big picture, or in the long run, I think each party (and it's root causes) benefits from having their own man in office.

It would be very difficult for me to convince myself that my conservative goals could be advanced by electing a democrat senator, that appears to be a little to the right of the republican.

One red flag would be, why is he a member of the democrat party?

I have voted R every year since I was 18 (except for locally occ) and two things are for sure. I won't vote for Rudy and I won't stay home.

I know what you mean. I cast my first ballot for a Republican in 1980 when I voted for Ronald Reagan and I've never voted for anyone but a Republican and I've never missed an election...for anything...since then. But I will not vote for Rudy and I will not support the party that nominates him, should he win the GOP nomination.

Very well stated.

"I can't speak for Mr. Robinson but IMHO, RINO'S are NOT WELCOME."

Well, since I'll certainly vote for Rudy or McCain, I guess you think I'm a RINO. But I've been made to feel welcome here on FR since 1998 and I've got no intention to leave.

Well, there's another interesting question for a thread.

"Free Republic stands firmly on the side of right, i.e., the conservative side.
As a conservative site, Free Republic is pro-God, pro-life, pro-family....

We are conservative activists dedicated to defending our rights....

That said.....May I add...

We oppose all forms of liberalism, socialism, fascism, pacifism, totalitarianism.....

We also oppose the United Nations.....

Despite the wailing of the liberal trolls and other doom & gloom naysayers, we feel no compelling need to allow them a platform to promote their repugnant and obnoxious propaganda from our forum.

I can't speak for Mr. Robinson but IMHO, RINO'S are NOT WELCOME."

Excellent! My sentiments as well.

that's an overstatement. I can tell the difference between Alito and Roberts, and Ginsburg and Breyer. I can tell the difference between terrorists locked up at Gitmo, or getting trials in US courts. and on taxes too. and many other issues.
