I don't know why the police are not recommending to do what she did. Looks like a darn good plan. On another note. That's a good looking clean-cut young guy. Quite different from the typical profile of the gang sleezes we so often see mug shots of. Sad what brings our youth to this.
That headline should read, "60-year old allegedly shoots carjacker."
You go girl, stop that SOB!

I hope she doesn't work as a border guard. She'd get eleven years!
Because she shot him in the abdomen, when she should have gone for the headshot.
Carol Keaton Many-Names has competition for the title of 'One Tough Grandma!'
Look again at the gang tat.
I'm not serious, and quit calling me shirley....
and to think a 20 years ago the same kid would have helped her with the groceries.....
The official position of most, if not all, police departments is do whatever the criminals want and hope they don't hurt you too badly. Our civic club had a police officer spend about forty five minutes lecturing us on how to be a good and willing victim.

You said -- "I don't know why the police are not recommending to do what she did. Looks like a darn good plan. On another note. That's a good looking clean-cut young guy. Quite different from the typical profile of the gang sleezes we so often see mug shots of. Sad what brings our youth to this."
Well, it's pretty clear why they said to not do this. For one thing, this is an extremely rich community. And for nice cars, you've got insurance coverage. So, a gunman comes up and surprises you (a 60 year old woman, no less) and demands the keys.
Well, that's a pretty simple demand. You give him the keys and step out of the way and he takes off in the car. You call the police within the minute and they're chasing down the car in no time flat -- especially since it's an armed car-jacking. It would be minutes and they'd have the guy in the car.
Now, I can't imagine tellling a 60 year old woman to struggle with a man who is close to his prime in strength and agility -- and wrest the gun away from him and then shoot him. I can't imagine that being good advice.
So, yes, the police should tell people to not do that.
And, it's a good question, if someone "has the drop" on you -- and even if you have a gun close by, if you should go for it, since he's got his gun out and just one or two seconds from shooting you (if you attempted to go for your gun).
I mean, what doesn't make sense about that kind of advice?
Now, what kind of advice should the police give people in that situation -- well, to be very aware of your surroundings before you approach your car. Or, if you're getting out, to survey your surroundings before you come to a stop and make sure you don't turn off your engine and get out of the car before you look around carefully and make yourself aware of what is going on around you.
Why do you think that they tell bank tellers to simply give people the money (no matter what, if they're being robbed). It's because it's the safer thing to do, they're covered by insurance, and most of the time, they get the bank robbers anyway.
So, don't wrestle a gunman down to the ground when he's pointing a gun at you, especially if all he wants is the keys and he's gone. That's a good way to get you dead.

P.S. -- I don't know if you know anything about Frisco -- but that is one rich town or community. It would appear, by the number of new stores and new houses around there that everyone who lives there has money galore. You haven't seen too many rich communities like this. That town looks like the only thing they do is spend money (for a "past-time" no less).
You're much more trusting of criminals with guns than i am. For all you know this guy was going to throw her in the back seat, rape her, then kill her.
Just be a good little victim and hope that they don't kill you, then if you are still alive, call the police who will give a valiant effort and if the criminal gets arrested, they sure won't get what they deserve.... So I say, we go back to the late 1800's where everyone carried a weapon of some sort and quick and just punishment.....
Not a victim and never will be.......
LOL!
What the hell you mean "old"?
