"Now there you go again..."

LOL. Touche.

Look I am a fan of the great legacy of RR, not the least of which was good-humored, handsome-faced ability to totally disarm the media snakes, a la the above masterstroke of political phraseology.

HOWEVER, in Lebanon he COULD have made an early, palpable statement to all of Islam about the cost of making war with the United States.

He fished for marlin instead of bass and went home with a full stringer.

Strategically this was a very smart move and obviously a beneficial one.

Can you imagine the state of affairs in the ME today if the Soviet Union were still at full strength?

Nancy Pelosi is a woman. I cannot stress this too much. When presented with the facts, women do not screw around with security. She will not say boo.

Well Putin is still clearly providing great aid and comfort to the enemies of the US.

That aside however, an immediate and DIRECT reprisal right back in the gut of Islam, would have done much to dampen the enthusiam and successes of terrorist recruiters across the region. I don't think the geopolitical ramifications of Reagan pushing the USSR toward economic disaster had quite the effect that a bomb in the backyard might have had.

Witness Quadafi's instant "thank you sir, may I have another" turnabout when the USAF lit up his poolside cabana (A Ronald Reagan production).

And that was in no way intended as a slap at women. It makes me hopeful she's in there right now as opposed to some addled ahole partisan male like Murtha.

Wouldn't it be as simple to begin providing bombs to their own indigenous 'insurrectionists'? They are not a stable, homogenous nation and the mullahs are not popular. Its not that hard to destabilize a country like that. Time to pull the foundation out.

The Accusation is made when the declamation can be backed up with force.

The Demand is the next step.

Prior to the barracks attack congress was already trying invoke the War Powers Act over the loss of 2 marines. I think RR saw the writing on the wall when we later lost 241 in a day. Gotta love a Democratically controlled house when a Republican President is trying to do good by force.

http://www.rand.org/pubs/conf_proceedings/CF129/CF-129.chapter6.html

From the link:
With the death of the two Marines on August 29, a furor arose in the American Congress as to whether or not the War Powers Resolution should be invoked to limit the duration of the Marine deployment in Lebanon. Some members sought a six-month limit. When it became clear that some limiting legislation would pass, the administration held out for and won an eighteen-month authorization. Secretary Shultz defended the U.S. contribution to the MNF in hearings before the Foreign Relations Committees of both houses of Congress. He justified the presence as "to help insure the Lebanese Government's sovereignty and authority . . . to assure the safety of the people in the area and to end the violence. . . . " Shultz described U.S. intervention in the Shuf battles as due to concern "that key strategic positions in the vicinity of Beirut, which are vital to the safety of our Marines, of other American military and diplomatic personnel, and to the security of Beirut, have recently come under attack." [43]"

Still wish RR would have told congress to sod off.

Todd

Fourth Rail....Bil Roggio report:

Evidence of Iran supplying weapons, expertise to Iraqi insurgents

**********************************AN EXCERPT *********************************

The Irbil raid in early January netted the most significant evidence, as well as a senior member of the Iranian Qods Force. Six Iranians were detained in Irbil, including Mohsin Chizari, the operational commander of the Qods Force, the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps specialized force that is equivalent to U.S. Special Forces. During the Irbil raid, "the Iranians were caught trying to flush documents down the toilet," and "bags of their hair were found... indicating they had tried to change their appearance." Chizari was "apprehended after slipping back into Iraq after a 10-month absence" from Iraq. Earlier it was reported Chizari was detained in the Baghdad raid, and subsequently released.

I think our political leaders have assessed us as unwilling to get involved in another fight, and are going to try and hope intimidation works instead. History has shown that it won't, but it won't stop us from trying.

The media has certainly done their part to deliver THAT message....but then.....:

The press is the propaganda arm of the American left and they have an agenda...see this:
