spooked the cops into firing. It was the national guard that fired. And they were not armed with the Colt/Mattel pop gun either.

The trial of the Chicago Seven uncovered pretty good evidence that the communist agitators were trying to provoke a massacre of their followers during the Demo Convention riots of 1968.
The Chicago cops held fire, though the media response to the mass beating of hippies was almost as bad. There is no evidence that a similar intention was being acted upon at Kent State, but it would not be unreasonable to suppose there was: An insane level of provocation was an imbedded tactic of all leftist demonstrations during that period and this was certainly in evidence just before the Guardsmen opened fire.
Why did it happen at Kent and not at Chicago two years earlier? The Ohio National Guardsmen at Kent did not have the same training or support as the Chicago cops and the local potheads were better fodder for the leftist manipulators, having been whipped into a frenzy by msm distortions of the news from Cambodia.

Looks like the DC police have the same rules of engagement that our troops in Iraq have.

I am so sorry, I meant that as reply to another post. Sorry.
United States Capitol building - That's in D.C. right?
Does Gonzales get paid? I hope not since Cold-Cash Jefferson got a pass and now this? If Nifong, I mean Fitzgerald needs a real job then maybe he should look into this.
Alberto Gonzales is the Attorney U.S. General and Fitzgerald is on a political witch hunt too.

Amen to your words.
For all you too far away, with the Dems in control of both Houses, the excuse of being too far away won't cut it any more. The libs and communists/socialist groups are emboldened.
The U.S.A. needs you now more than ever.
The D.C. Chapter needs you more than ever. We can't do it alone.
I challenge all supporters of the troops and conservatives to come counter a planned March 17 antiwar rally being planned by the moonbats. They plan to start at the Vietnam Memorial and march to the Pentagon. Organize bus transportation and pick up others on your way in.
Jeez, since not enough people voted to keep Republicans in control of at least one House, the troops and us all are paying for it now.

What is the chain of command above the Chief of the Capitol Police? Could the order to allow this defacement have come from the political leadership of the House or the Senate?

"Certainly this was a skirmish between Left and Right, but we are not at WAR with our FELLOW AMERICANS."
This was not a skirmish between "left and right." This was an open display of contempt for what is good an decent in the world. The people who did this are not Americans regardless of the accident of their birth. The people in the crowds are not protesters. They are perpetrators of sedition and treason. And make no mistake, we who value the God given rights of man, we who demand justice for all, and freedom exercised with personal restraint and respect for the rights of others are very much in a WAR WITH THESE PEOPLE. Having lived through the sixties I could not disagree with you more.

If we ever reach the sad point where vandalism becomes a First Amendment right, I intend on beating up the next person I see burning an American flag.
After all, I'll only be exercising my First Amendment rights too.
To: El Gato
I know it was National Guard, but cops are commonly referenced .

Where are the riot police, where are the glorious pictures of silly hippies getting their asses beat?
We're depriving a whole generation of moonbats the opportunity to really earn their counterculture street cred.

That should be written into the Constitution as a duty!
