I know what you mean, but I'd hate to see President Bush lower himself. It's probably wishful thinking, but having the contrast more obvious to the public might bear some fruit. (I can dream.)
A truly loyal VSR will lend his money and support to those Republican officials who are capable of and willing to advance conservatism, will do everything in his power to knock out unreliable Republicans in the primaries, and then if necessary will hold his nose and vote straight R in most cases. He will also use every reasonable and ethical means to influence his elected R's to do the right thing once in office. This includes criticizing the president when he does something really stupid like supporting Lincoln Chaffee or nominating Harriet Myers.
In my case their was one exception to the VSR rule... Joe Lieberman (D) vs. Lowell Weicker (R) for US Senate back in the early 90s. I have no doubt that I made the right call in that instance.
Earmarks slipped in during the last hour when even CSpan isn't watching. LOL Good one

7.2m new jobs (no applause), inflation low, economy on the move. Need more enterprise not more gov't (lying, explands gov't). Must balance fed. budget. Can do so without raising taxes. Spending discipline needed (lying, loves spending).
Eliminate deficit within the next 5 yrs. Earmarks, joke about C-SPAN. Wants to cut "cost of earmarks in half by the end of this session." Not great applause.
Entitlements now...
President Bush is pretty impressive.
