I do not agree with the President on everything though I agree with him on the vast majority of things. I try to refrain from criticizing him on this great forum because even if there are some freepers who make "constructive criticism", the flood gate will be opened for the Bush Bashers.

Torie, notice how many threads get quickly hijacked by the Bush Bashers and the few constructive criticism will be lost among the Bush Bashing, Republican Bashing and in many instance the Bashing turns into incredible rage and hate that is a bad as those made by left wing luncatics.

so what, the point is - THOSE PEOPLE HAVE COVERAGE. leave them alone, the problem with the system isn't people who have coverage, ITS PEOPLE WHO DON'T.

Thanks for that added information. Every little bit of light helps. I know this President's instincts are to help the small business person - he has been a very vocal champion of small business people! He sees them as the heroes of this economy! I do too. So doing things to help this group is a welcome effort. I heard him talk - again - about giving small business people the ability to be in associations that get big healthcare choices....because they are serviced by companies that benefit from serving large groups of people/businesses. This has been a goal of this President. I don't know why it can't be accomplished.

That's where Bush should channel his energy. That and on ambulance chasing lawyers that are lousing up insurance costs for everyone. Why didn't he talk about that?

"protect good doctors from junk lawsuits by passing medical liability reform."

Busted!

Bush has had six years to establish better controls over the border and to enforce existing laws regarding the hiring of illegal aliens. For four of those six years, both houses of Congress were controlled by the Republicans. The Administration's record was abysmal, worse than that of the Clinton Administration, which was poor.

I'm unfamiliar with this use of the word "pencil". If you could explain it, I'd appreciate it. Sorry for my ignorance....

Amen! There is so much we don't know.

Since 9/11 (8 months after he took office) he has had to bear the weight of the world on his shoulders. No one here really understands the strength he has to have.

I thank God everyday he and Cheney were in charge instead of the dems.

I hope our 08 nominee has the guts to fight the WOT too

"Any plan that unlike Bush's, doesn't tax the rich in order to redistribute it to the poor via the IRS tax code."

LMAO..WAIT UNTIL YOU GET A READ OF THE DEMS PLANS!!

" I'm all for getting rid of redundant or useless entitlement programs. That's where Bush should channel his energy. That and on ambulance chasing lawyers that are lousing up insurance costs for everyone. Why didn't he talk about that?"

DO you really think that President Bush should 'channel his energy towards entitlement programs and ambulance chasing lawyers' in the middle of a war for our country's very survival?

UNFREAKINBELIEVABLE!!

Unfortunately I didn't change the channel fast enough to turn that buffoon off.
Maybe if Sen. Webb's protege Senor Bubba didn't sign into law free trade agreements with 1/2 the developing nations in the world, the so-called "salary disparity" wouldn't exist.
Is it anyone's business what the CEO of a company makes vs. its employees?
In other words do I denegrate the Donald because he's a multi-gazillionaire??? I didn't think so either.

I could solve that "salary disparity" thing, but I'll get on my welfare rant and I really don't feel like it now.

I couldn't believe W shook hands with our favorite buffoon Dennis Kucinich. That was rather painful too see!!!!!

Is this FNC poll on H&C biased?????? That's what CNN and MSNBC are saying I bet. Oh another one. Bobby Beckel........NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

flag, I have to call it a night. It was interesting talking to you. Good night and God bless.

Thanks, AliVeritas. A good debate is a good thing. It was a pleasure dueling verbally with you. You were a good sparring partner. Nitey nite.

What about people who decide to just pay for their own health care, rather than buying insurance? What about people who don't really need health insurance, but need something else? Why should some specific expenditures be tax deductable, but not others?

That's certainly a legitimate point. I find it hard impossible to defend the bloated tax code, so I certainly won't try it here. If I had my way there would be no deductions, as I find them to be little more than social engineering.

For what it's worth, I wish the President would have proposed accounts that allow pre-tax contributions for healthcare similar to 401k retirement accounts. Allow this money to be converted into a retirement account and/or passed onto heirs.

That is your personal opinion which I don't value much either. And who cares when people made any particular comment regarding any particular aspect of the President's speech. I believe that not all FReepers are able to join in a discussion when it first begins but that doesn't mean they do not have the right to voice their observations and opinions later on in the thread. If that displeases you, I am so sorry.

This is NOT a "tax the rich" plan at all.

Companies NEVER gave health insurance to their employees, until right after WW II, when UNIONS used it to blackmail them. It started out in a small way and the unions pressed and pressed and and garroted companies to make the FREE or almost free health insurance larger and larger.

When people get something for nothing, or very little, they tend to misuse and abuse it. That IS what has happened to not only health insurance, but to all medical care in general.

There are a LOT of self employed/entrepreneurs who must pay for their own health insurance and because of the deals and the money big companies pay, these people are getting the fuzzy end of the stick and worse. And all medical costs keep escalating, to boot.

The president's proposal ( which sadly, he probably won't get ), is a TAX DEDUCTION; not, as you claim, a "redistribution of wealth". And its purpose is to get everyone to be more responsible for their own lives and their own health insurance and the costs of it. There is nothing, NOTHING, less Marxist and more CONSERVATIVE, than this plan!

The key to the system is to have decentralized providers, and price sensitive consumers, when it comes to medical care, with care for everyone at some level within that system. But it will cost more money, and the dirty little truth, is that giving everyone the best medical care available, particularly the aged, will grow ever more horrifically expensive, and is unsustainable. In the end, there will be triage, one way or the other. We can at least stop American drug consumers subsidizing drug research for the planet, but that too is just a palliative -- helpful but not dispositive of anything.

"I could say more, but I won't."

No, you can't say more because it's all true. If I had the energy, which I don't, I'd go back on the Olmert threads and post your comments, which were in support of Olmert. Senile dementia hasn't hit yet. I remember.

Allow this money to be converted into a retirement account and/or passed onto heirs.

The Democrats would never let that happen........unless we defeat them soundly.

That is a pretty good plan; I can see why you're happy with it.

And, it adds all the more incentive to take care of one's own health...

Am listening to his speech again - the EARMARKS comment was early in the speech. I want to know more about these too. I just know they are BAD for the American people!!!! Show them to the Americna people by letting the light of day shine on them.....I bet that never happens. Then cut these back to half what they are now. Lead on, Mr. President....but the corrupt ones in Congress will surely not be following you...
