If he did I'd vote in the democrat primary for him, in the hopes he would resign his senate seat for the race......
Now that was a damn good speech!!! Thank you for posting the transcript, Starwise :)
Not sure I feel quite as strongly about my vote as you do. BUT - I am EXTREMELY disappointed (though not surprised).
Of course, he made niced with the Dems (barf, but I guess necessary). He then proceeds to announce enviro-nazi environmental regualtions. 20% reduction in gasoline consumption? With a million new illegals coming in, with many of them driving, with our population as a whole increasing, with more and more cars on the road- exactly how do we REDUCE by 20% the use of gas? Or is he back-dooring the use of ethanol and other bio-fuels (which was hinted around about not long after)?
The clincher for me, though, was not what sounded like a shift towards socialized medicine (by another name - private insurance funded/subsidized/whatever by the government). By biggest hang-up was his immigration shell game. HE talks about strengthening the border, then promotes a guest worker program to continue to bring in even more immigrants that will supposedly "reduce pressure on the border"....
And then he promoted his Amnesty idea, of course still not calling it what it is. I wish someone would ask him in an interview what he calls a program that gives lawbreakers an opportunity to get off and not suffer any penalty. It's called amnesty - PERIOD.
If the last Congress wouldn't act on conservative issues why would this one?
Yeah, I voted for Reagan. Twice. And my opinion about Bush ain't gonna change.
I didn't watch the speech, just Webb's response (because I live in Virginia and the local blogs will waste time discussing what he looked like). I READ the president's speech, so I didn't need to watch him deliver it, and I read the comments here to see what misconceptions might have to be dealt with, and where I need to do more research.
I'm listening to christian music on my comcast cable network, and typing away -- it's pretty soothing.
I don't know... !!!
Under the president's plan, both people will now get the SAME TAX BREAK. That's not "income redistribution", that's actually TAX FAIRNESS.
Read my other comments posted. I'm tired of explaining what should be obvious.
Come to think Bush needed a lot more of that where it counted on a considerable number of issues. Bush inter alia was very slow in reacting to events in Iraq, and poorly planned the post Saddam exit strategy, in many ways. JMO as well.
How hard is this? If "many of my posts...are very negative", then link to a few and let's address the specifics.
And don't think I haven't noticed that you're carefully backing off your original assertion. What started out as a rant, full stop, has turned into negative comments that for you are a rant. Don't let the facts stand in the way of feelings, right?
I am not here in a court to go and post "your posts" for evidence.
Funny how that works. You make libelous accusations and then refuse to provide the evidence. Shameful conduct, really.
You are either dishonest or ignorant, because he DID mention protecting good doctors from lawsuits! But your anger just overrides facts, doesn't it?
He mentioned something about frivolous lawsuits against the medical profession. The dems didn't like that idea.
Speaking of christian music I think I saw Sandi Patti in the crowd as Bush was walking out and shaking hands with people.
I'm doing great in my real job. Meanwhile, my wife was begged to go back to work because there is such a shortage of labor, and a local newspaper pays me to write a column for them -- so while I could live comfortably on a single salary, we have three incomes. We even had a fourth for a day or two, as my son got a part in a commercial (world's shortest career).
Anyway, there are two americas all right, the real one where people live, and the one the exists in the minds of the democrats where giving a few hundred thousand people a $2-an-hour raise is considered salvation for the poor, and ethics reforms means punishing people who want to petition government while doing nothing to stop politicians from spending OUR money to get re-elected.
I was surprised to see that Charles gets his nails done. They look so white; either polish or French tips.
Haha, Hill's pink was very blah... looked like it had been laundered a hundred times. But possibly a solidarity code to her "sisters" in code pink? Hahahahahahaha.......
please. think it through.
the reason the US doesn't already have a national health care system like the rest of the western nations do - is because most americans have been able to get private health care as a benefit of employment. absent that system, we would have had universal medicare long ago, as opposed to having it just for the elderly who no longer work.
if we destroy the employer benefit based healthcare system, those workers will run screaming to government for a solution. this is what the Dems want, they want the current system to fail - so they can be there dangling the carrot of universal medicare.
the conservative approach to this problem - are medical 401Ks. you can't force workers out of their employer based plans via a tax, you can incentivize a new system - that young workers will be first to adopt, and gradually transition the system with CHOICES, not TAXES.
I am amazed at how many conservatives here have been willing to accept this crazy Bush plan, just because a republican proposed it. If Bill Clinton were proposing to tax employer provided benefits, we would all be going crazy right now.
"You've probably never taken a public speaking class, so perhaps you aren't aware of this. A critique on any speech can, and normally does, include all of these things."
As I've said before, I don't much value your opinion, which is so often off or verging on the ridiculous, which your above statement is. And by the way, the comments on people's looks, eyes, etc. were being done throughout the speech, not at the end of it. Re-read the thread.
