The President should ask the Democ-rat Congress to resume the draft....and let his Republicans resist. See how the democrats govern in the face of public demand and simultaneous political opposition.

"Hello Miss Pelosi. What are you gonna have today? More troops in Iraq, or less troops?
My, my, I heard your man Murtha say he wants to redeploy to Okinawa. Do either of
you know where Okinawa is? It's half way 'round the world. Where's your head at?"

If Bush had done this before the election, the rats and the media would have screamed, but we still might have won a few more seats in Congress.

By the end of the month but more than likely by mid-January. A 20,000 buildup can be done in as little as a few days. Kennedy is probably in cardiac arrest by now.

That may be but I don't care. We need to win this war. You, I, my children will all suffer if we don't and it doesn't appear Bush has a strategy to win. But on the other hand, this time the generals are just as culpable. Apparently they have forgotten what war is and how it is fought.

JUST A BIT OF AN UPDATE:

WASHINGTON - A first wave of additional U.S. troops will go into Iraq before the end of the month under President Bush's new plan, a senior defense official said Tuesday.

Up to 20,000 troops will be put on alert and prepared to deploy under the president's plan, but the increase in forces on the ground will be gradual, said the official, who requested anonymity because the plans have not yet been announced.

Moving first would be the 2nd Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division, which is in Kuwait and poised to move quickly into Iraq.

Details of the plan were emerging a day before Bush was to address the nation on his broad initiative to shore up the fragile country, and they came as members of Congress kept up vocal opposition to any major escalation in the nearly four-year-old war.

Carl Levin, a Michigan Democrat who chairs the Senate Armed Services Committee, said he expects Bush to announce that up to 20,000 additional troops will be sent to Iraq but not to say how long the extra forces will be there.

Levin, who spoke to reporters a day after meeting with White House national security adviser Stephen Hadley, said he believes Bush will signal that the overall U.S. commitment in Iraq is not open-ended.

Now if we can just change the rules of engagement from "don't fire until you see the smoke from their bombs" to "shoot first and ask questions later", we might just win this war.

This won't take long. We are out of political time. We are on borrowed time now.

The emphasis will be on bringing security to Baghdad and the reduction of tensions that has created Mooki's Army. At some point, if they do not disband on their own, we will have no choice but to leave.

That will be in 18 months to two years.

We will be lucky if we can get this time, this necessary time.

But it can happen.. It must.

This is the last shot before a new president and likely a Dem, changes the course, and the damages the future of America if not completely killing it..

Hmmm... Unauthorized disclosure of planned troop movements in time of war. Sounds to me like treason.

Naw, chances are it is a guess by someone they have been hounding in the Pentagon. Probably a good guess since the troops are sitting on the border anyway, but a guess just the same.
