Zahi Hawass is a real character, he wears an Indiana Jones hat and is often accused of being 'pro-American'. He is a muzzie but seems to put his country ahead of his religion.
A lot of interesting stuff has come out of Egypt since he was put in charge although the government was most likely just out to get more tourist dollars.
I was very disapointed when he disallowed Gatenbein (sp) to continue his robotic survey of the Great Pyramid's "air-shafts" but Zahi Hawass followed up nicely with his own 'home-grown' robots. Cannot wait to find out what is behind the little doors in the air-shafts!!
