I gave my daughter a stern talking-to about the war. I reviewed the actual history of the Vietnam War and how we left due to pressure and the cutting off of aid to the Vietnamese Army. I also brought up the Boat People and the Killing Fields of Cambodia.
I then told her that if we abandon Iraq NO ONE will ever trust us as an ally again.
I believe I got her to see why we need to stay.
It's rough work, though, to convince pepople. They see nothing but negative on the news, many of their peers are brainwashed as well, and you have to get them to accept that as well-informed as they think they are, they have not been told the truth.

Seems the left thinks that the lives of the viet namese were meaningless. The re-education camps for those not murdered outright. An entire generation of intellectuals murdered in VN after we left. The hundreds of thousands killed in Cambodia? The media would have us believe none of that happened.
Luckily my daughter's high school invited Dipth Pran (yikes) to speak and tell the students what happened after we left VN.
How the media lied about what was happening in VN and how much influence Kerry and Fonda had towards demoralizing this country into thinking we didn't belong there. That saving those lives were beneath us somehow. That those people weren't worth any sacrifice.

I know. It's depressing.
Off-topic. John Bolton has resigned, effective at the end of his recess appointment.

I am telling this to all of my friends, family and whoever will listen. It just disgusts me to think that there are people out there who want to throw in the towel. There is the appearance that we learned NOTHING from the rise of fascism or Vietnam and what happens when the diplo-weenies take control of a situation. I REFUSE to give up and will continue to write my Congress-critters to urge them to grow a spine and support our COMINCH and the Troops. God save this great nation.

And the Bush bashing continues on the Bolton thread.
There are times when I wonder if they're enjoying their alternate universe. Can't be too much fun, they're always angry and vicious.

If I weren't pretty sure that most of them are third-party or democrats in disguise, I would throw in the towel and quit the Republican party.

You might want to start with letters to our own so called right wing pundits and talk show hosts who spent the past few years demanding the President do things their way....or else.
Or else has arrived and now they're ridiculing the dems special interest groups for demanding things done their way.
They don't seem to realize they are no different than the leftist groups demandind demanding demanding.
And now that Bolton's resignation has been announced, the same know it alls on FR are blaming the President.

Good idea. They do have some sway in the "alternative media". I was saddened to see Bolton's resignation. The Dems major complaint was his "bristling personality" which is exactly what I want to represent our interests in the Useless Nuisance. I have few complaints with my individual Congressman and in fact helped him win re-election (served as a Ward Chariman). However, I must embarrassingly admit that my 2 Senators (OH) have been nothing short of terrible.

You bet your ass they do. Night before last on Ft Lauderdale Florida station 102.7 doing golden oldies this ass-wipe comes on and says ah yes 1967 the year we lost the vietnam war during the TET OFFENSIVE. What a liar everybody needs to write to that radio station and tell them what liars they are!
We did not loose the TET we let the tv and newspapers tell us we lost. How about the 3 million who died in nam after we and the chickenshit democrats pulled the plug on helping a allie fight the good fight we did not have the balls to fight. Democrats make me sick to my stomach.

If sending in three divisions in 48 hours could force the stupid Iraqi's to quit killing each other and live in peaceful democratic harmony, I would be all for it. It won't though. You are trying to win a war using WWII methods which don't apply. If there was an enemy we could kill we would win easily, but until we admit that Islam is the enemy, we can not hope to defeat it.
Frankly I am for carpet bombing the place till the rubble bounces and then calling it a day.

The generations that grew up from the 60's on are just pathetic. We've seen enough of the boomers to make that call now.Who were their parents?
