Thanks for the updates, 8 mm.

Please clarify: the grandmother accused in the fall 2005 "murder/suicide" of Haleigh's adoptive mother (her biological mother's sister) is the adoptive father's mother? Do we know why ...? Is the biological father or his parents in the picture?

People do change their minds about issues. I know of one person who supported Mike because she had heard of Terri's case only through the MSM and couldn't imagine anyone being allowed in this country to do what Mike and Greer and that lies were spread about those two. Later, after reading impartial sources, she changed her mind and is horrified how Terri was treated.

What Ben Stein himself said (as opposed to TNR's spin)

"The local newspaper here in Beverly Hills expressed it best in a headline:

"Terry Schiavo Sentenced To Death."

"Because she had a "husband" who did not want her alive to talk about him or for whatever reason, she was sentenced to die in a cruel and unusual way that the Supreme Court would never have countenanced for the most savage mass killer -- slow starvation and dehydration. Why isn't she excused from the death penalty for that reason alone? ...

"...when Terri Schiavo is with her Maker let's be clear what happened: she was executed by the culture of death judiciary, the same ones who say no baby has a right to live until he's out of the womb by a few days -- and you can bet that's going to change so that babies who are less than perfect will soon be sentenced to death, too. She was executed, despite having committed no crime whatsoever, by thugs in black robes who would not know a law if it were on their breakfast plate."

(Ben Stein's column was dated two days before Terri died.)

So Frist is subject to ridicule if he dares speak honestly from his years of training or years of experience? Though if he'd agreed with right to kill folks, they'd be quoting him!

I spoke with other physicians who had the same impression upon seeing that videotape, and it's what I noticed as well: that Terri was apparently responding to her mother 'fussing' with her as only a mom can. She was repeatedly responding to touch, sound, sight, who knows to what degree to each sense, but she was.

What a sad situation this remains. Cruelty beyond belief.

I've tried to figure that out too :-) The stories are murky. I think it was Holli Strickland's grandmother, not Jason's (grand)mother, but I can't vouch for it. Mrs. Sudyka is Haleigh's grandmother, ergo Holli's aunt. Or half-aunt or step-aunt... Help!

Those of us who have had similar experiences with friends or family in similar conditions as Terri would recognize it in a flash. It would be no room for debate for us, no more than whether the sun rises in the morning.

I saw a television special a few months ago about these types of situations.....the gist of it was that the more kids they could keep in state custody the more federal funding the state receives.

It all boils down to money, not the welfare of the child.

That's the general rule, all right.

This case is odd, though. The sheer meanness of it makes you wonder if there's something more afoot. I happen to think there is. Certainly we have grounds for a ripping good conspiracy theory here! (Maybe several :-) )

--> Half sister (Strickland) steals child from real mother (Allison Avrett) through, and with the apparent connivance, of DSS. Later, DSS threatens Avrett with loss of her then unborn baby if she didn't go along with it. Ignores the fact that the abuse charges Strickland lodged against Avrett's boy friend were investigated and found to be false.

--> DSS ignores medical evidence of abuse after abuse by Strickland, the half sister -- who, remember, may have connections in DSS. Only after horrible and near-fatal final child abuse does DSS take custody.

--> Haleigh had FOUR social security numbers -- all false. Strickland was using her as a cash cow for welfare handouts.

--> Strickland shot dead by her grandmother, who then kills herself, right after Strickland was released on the initial abuse charges -- so we toss a murder and a suicide into the mix. Now there's an unusual twist!

--> The DSS itself asks court for permission to kill Haleigh (as if she hadn't suffered enough). The court approves it -- evidently AFTER Haleigh started coming out of the coma. There's a story here that isn't being told. Maybe that's why the DSS wants to shut it up.

How many conspiracies do we have going so far? :-) :-)

I too feel there is more than money involved such as just meanness. There was also sadism involved in Mike, Judge Greer, and their enablers' actions towards Terri and her parents that was more than just money - though that certainly was one factor.

Organ donation: Lack of awareness causing shortfall

-snip-

"We get approximately 3,000 pledges every year for our eye bank. Out of that, 10 per cent is voluntary. The rest 90 per cent comes after our counsellors motivate patients and their relatives about the importance of donating their eyes."

-snip-

"While kidneys can be transplanted from a living donor, all the other organs must be recovered only from cadavers," said BK Das, spokesperson of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. "By cadaver, we mean a person who is brain dead but all his organs are functioning because he is on life support."

But at this point, doctors are faced with unwilling relatives who refuse to let go of the patient, whose body is still warm and who, to a layman, seems to be sleeping.

Connellsville dropped from wrongful death lawsuit

Finnerty died the day after the fight, when his family removed him from life support.

Might have had something to do with that head injury.

Elko Detectives Investigate Child's Death

Miguel Vera was flown to a hospital in Boise, Idaho, after the Sunday morning incident. He was taken off life support yesterday. The coroner's office in Boise ruled that the child died of blunt force trauma to the head.

Are we ever going to learn to treat patients with head injuries, or are we satisfied with the kill-'em-all approach to medicine? It seems to me that we have the ability to treat head injuries. All the cases I've heard of, the patient lived, unless they were denied treatment.

S.C. Shaken Baby Taken Off Life Support

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A Lancaster family is planning a funeral for a five-month-old boy.

They decided to take Bryce Short off life support Monday night.

Now his father, 22-year-old Allen Short, is charged with homicide by child abuse.

Sheriff’s deputies say Short admitted shaking the baby several times on Dec. 3 when he wouldn’t stop crying. He and the child were at a relative’s home on Pineview Drive.

Short faces 20 years to life in prison.

Shaking a baby does tend to cause brain damage. Brain damage tends to cause eugenics driven bioethicking.

2-year old Davis County boy recovering from alleged abuse by stepfather

The parents of a little boy, nearly two years old, are helping him heal from devastating injuries likely caused by child abuse.

Isaac Gunter was scalded by boiling water last May, with burns over 30 percent of his body. He was in the care of his stepfather at the time, who was also burned. But two weeks after Isaac got out of the hospital, he was transported by helicopter, again, to the emergency room. Isaac's head had been beaten, his arm fractured, he was paralyzed on one side and blinded in one eye.

If he'd been denied medical attention, as so many brain injured patients are, he'd be dead now. As heart wrenching as it is reading about children being abused, it's refreshing to read about parents who love their children unconditionally.

Seven Ways Your Clients Can Lose Their Inheritances to Uncle Sam – and Others

No plan for incapacity: An 80-year-old grandmother sinks into dementia. A 30-year-old father of twins is left in a coma after a car accident. Anyone can be left incapacitated at any age with no clear game plan for spouses or heirs. This wastes money, time and creates great emotional hardship. The Terry Schiavo situation was a wakeup call to families who realized they left incomplete instructions for their health care wishes in case of temporary or long-term disability. Advance health care directives designate health-care decision makers and delineate their powers, and leave very precise instructions about life support and other treatment options. Some individuals underscore written directives by videotaping themselves giving these instructions. Powers of attorney can also be created to assign financial decision makers to the situation.

How soon should we pull Granny's plug? When she forgets to pay the monthly bills? We don't want to let them stack up, and accrue interest. That would be a waste of money and time, and would create great emotional hardship. Must get Granny to sign on the dotted line, before it's too late.

The ACLU is an enemy of life, as we all know.

How about we vote for "Stop the ACLU" and help out our fellow FReeper, Jay777, who works so hard to Stop the ACLU.
