The word 'nigger" is about power. It's about a race of people claiming ownership of a word and getting to decide who can use it and who can't.
How about "Jackson"? That's been used in derogatory ways in the past, by the same people who use the "N" word 99.9% of the time today.
ENWORD - still not banned speech.
The idea that we should even consider banning A WORD in case it hurt's one's feelings is absurd. What's next, start banning use of other words that make people uncomfortable?
It's not quite 1984, but maybe, oh, 1982.
It started out as the mispronounced name of a country. Then they changed the name of the country. But the old name stuck for people from that country. Sort of like "New Yorkers". If the new name would have replaced the old, the word "Nigerians" would be the one being banned, and causing so much controversy.

I used to work as a substitute teacher in public school. You'd be amazed at the number of times I had to discipline African-American children for using the "n-word" on each other.
I'm white, by the way. Perhaps Jese would be advised to join Bill Cosby's crusade . . . . . . but I won't hold my breath.

The only people I know that use that awful word are the blacks and the people that scream about using it. This is so stupid.
Hey Jesse, I'm offended by the word "blacks". Get that word banned too. Negro is the correct word.
