So, if Democrats take the black vote for granted, and if Republicans take the evangelical vote for granted, whose going to take this new mix for granted?

Hey, if you think Jesus wants ravenous wolves dining with the sheep, that's your call. Count me out.

This is a way for Obama to gain stature. He's already getting plenty of that from the Democrat Media.

There's no good reason for Christ's body to be abetting it.

No one. Compromisers are the perfect tools for the enemies of our free republic, and they will be courted assiduously...at least until their usefulness is used up.

The man has taken to using politics and politicians to advance his cause

And 'conservatives' don't? Name a moral issue and 'conservatives' want a law passed enforcing it. Laws that have no business at the national government level.

Also note that many of the moral concerns Republicans claim they have, I know I have. But I also know that none of them were intended to be legislated at the national level

After the last election, he's suddenly courting a prominent Democratic politician.

Courting. I see. Never mind that he and Obama have some of the same concerns about AIDS and HIV. I don't think I know a single person with the disease but I also know it's not always limited to those who may have lifestyles we disagree with. Are we supposed to just forget about them, write off the casualties and keep pushing the 'conservative' cause? I suppose that's verboten to agree with a Democrat on anything. That about the gist of it?

You're not supposed to state that :-)

Don't you know that God is a republican and hates and condemns all others :-)

We do know that there are certain things God hates...

"There are six things the Lord hates, seven are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tounge, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart the devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness whp pours out lies, and a man who stirs up dissension among his brothers." (Proverbs 6:16-19)

Certainly those are less than admirable qualities...arrogance, lying, dividers. But I would suggest that it is better to leave the hating and condemning to God.

I repeat to you that my view is that there isn't anything that is much more harmful in this world than the hatred and condemnation by the children of God to one another.

Those who hate and condemn and love their hatred and condemnation are contributing to the pain and suffering in this world, imo. Those who do so consciously are consciously, deliberately causing harm. All the while Rick Warren is trying to help people.

I see. So does that include innocents killed in war zones? Innocents killed by inaction of others (to paraphrase Burke)? Or just babies killed in abortions? Let's see what else He hates. Lying tounge? Well we all know only Democrats lie right? Heart that devises wicked schemes? Well none of us have ever done that, well except Democrats of course...Feet that are quick to rush into evil? Depends on our everchanging definition of evil to condone our actions doesn't it? Since Democrats do evil and Republicans can only do good, guess that means only Democrats do that too. Check. False witness? Give me a break they're politicians. Stirs up dissension among his brothers? Well I know from reading right here on FR that only Democrats sling mud during campaigns...

Wow I guess you're right!! Republicans are lily white and Democrats are of the devil.

I just moved from your area and in many ways miss it already. The Saddleback staff and Rick Warren have made tremendous impacts on people's lives for Christ as well as guiding and mentoring many church leaders struggling to to make a difference in their communities.

Sadly, there are those who are the Sunday arm-chair preachers who believe their spiritual gifting is in "picking the fly doo-doo out of the pepper" in other people's lives. The extent of the arguments so far include: a). they don't like the translations of the Bible Warren uses; b). truisms or quotes by non-Christians shouldn't be spoken of; c). sinners should not be allowed to step in our churches; d). theological opinions debated by people with little or no formal theological training are given more weight than a Seminary trained church pastor; e). nimbyism is now cool in church; and/or f). Warren should only talk in "stained glass." Did I get them all?

Peace to you on your journey.

I don't know about your "Jesus" but my shepherd can kick any "ravenous wolves" butts from here to eternity - no, wait, he already kicked their butts ...... and won! Jesus commands me to be "in" the world but not "of" the world and I have faith that He will protect me while serving in His name.

Is your God not big enough?

I just don't get it. Is he aware of Anais Nin's sordid background? He may as well have asked Larry Flint or Hugh Hefner - though I think Anais Nin may have surpassed them both in terms of depravity.

I didn't post anything about Republicans or Democrats.

My post of Proverbs 6:16-19 was in consideration of Obama's zeal toward murdering the unborn and the being born...I don't care what his political affiliations are.

None of my posts, on this thread, have contained any context related to political parties...You're barking up the wrong tree.

Ah but you did highlight a specific portion of that one verse. And I can easily see where that applies not only to abortion but to other aspects of life as well. Will we condemn those too? Especially if a large portion of those in the evangelical arena are not only condone it but praise it (i.e. war)? I state this not to take a side but to point out that while I disagree with Obama's position, I should hope that he is welcome at this church if it is to speak on an aspect that all Christians should be concerned. Namely taking care of the ill and sick.

"Hey, if you think Jesus wants ravenous wolves dining with the sheep, that's your call. Count me out."

Far be it for me to in anyway assume to know what Jesus wants but, I'll take a leap of faith to say that He probably wants me to go to the ends of the earth to make disciples of all nations. So, yes, I will be dining with some "ravenous wolves" if Jesus wants me to.

Does outreach in your church extend past the parking lot?

Barack Hussein Obama doesn't care about the ill and the sick, except to the extent that they can help him advance his political power.

This guy protected continuing the practice of murdering babies in Illinois.

a). The problems are mainly with the paraphrases Warren uses (they distort the actual text)...not the translations. There is a big difference between the two.

b). The problems are not with truisms or quotes by non-Christians. The problems are with the false teachers, and their false teachings, that he endorses.

c). Nobody has posted that sinners should not be allowed to step in our churches. You are just making this stuff up.

d). Acts 17:11

e). not worth addressing

f). not worth addressing

No...You did not get them all. You missed them all.

"Outreach" doesn't extend to bringing wicked, lying, deceptive men in as special guests and setting them up as authorities.

Answer my question: Do you let kids play in traffic because you think Jesus will protect them?

You have a very confused mind. First you claim you can't know God's will, then you claim such knowledge that would permit you to do what you obviously want to do...break spiritual bread with one of the most dangerous, lying, wicked men in America today.

The church doesn't need a supporter of infanticide and of radical homosexuality to teach it anything, including taking care of the ill and sick.

"I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and makes war. His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him that no one knows but he himself. He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is Word of God. " (Revelations 19:11-13)
