CNN has a profit-motivated incentive to be quick and accurate. The SoS has no such incentive.

Yes, the polls looked this bad in 2004. Oops, the exit pollsters used a bunch of college girls who looked like democrats and the randy Republican guys wanted to score with them so they said they were dims too. Seriously.
These young chicks were getting a ton of extra democrat voters for some mysterious reason. The polling was BAD. We are going to win the Senate, we might keep the house.
That is exactly it. The exit polls are nothing more than space fillers for the MSM until the actual returns are in.

I hope Hugh is right. It sounds too much like 2004 again. Polls showing bad news while GOP sources around the country report they are meeting or exceeding their turnout goals, and getting out slightly more voters than the Dems. So I am nervous but still hopeful.

But at this time in '04 Rove, Mehlman et al were SCREAMING at the networks about their exit polls. It wasn't until about 6:30 CT that Fox started hedging their reports with doubts about the exits.
I'm not hearing the screaming this time. It sounds to me like Major and other reporters are getting a glum message out of GOP HQ.
I haven't given up...and neither should anyone who hasn't voted!
