Then the court may take matters into it's own hands.

Fine, let them enforce their opinion.

What? if the NJ legislature does not follow their invented prescriptions, will they say the NJ Legislature made them usurp the legislative branches powers?

I am not a lawyer, but my basic understanding is that this would be a violation of the separation of powers.

Only if the Legislative & executive branches play along.

Otherwise it could be rather humorous if the judicial branch mandated a person in the executive branch be fired for not granting a counterfeit marriage license.

Here in Mass, we have the advantage of having been there before... the court didn't "punt" to the legislature; the legislature refuses to deal with it, despite the obvious popular opposition to same sex marriage.

Whitman is for gay marriage. She says she a libertarian on social issues and conservative on fiscal issues.

She's quiet now because Schumer is threatening to sue her over the WTC air. Guess he wanted her to take the air away and bring fresh air every day.

So she sends her compadre out there....Danforth to carry the water against the christian conservatives.

Whitman has long railed against the religious community.

It was reported today that the governor of NJ turned down millions of dollars in aid to promote abstenance. In the past the money went to religious groups to promote abstenance but by refusing the funding he is denying them the funds.

This man is so disgusting it defies description.

The NJ legislature and the NJ Supreme Court are partners in crime.

The laughing stock of the country when they approved the swap of Toricelli for Lautenberg under the excuse that the voters were entitled to two good choices.

Boggles the mind.

All the signs are there that Whitman is not your average woman ~ probably a deeply closeted lesbian in fact ~

Now we have to ask why it is so many people in New Jersey are attracted to homosexuals.

Is it safe to drive from Delaware to New York on I-95?

Maine and California also turned down the money.

Ok I didn't think so. But that doesn't mean the Gov. will obey the constitution, or the legislature either for that matter. MA legislature and Gov. haven't been since 2000. They just kept it from a vote. And in MA, matters of marriage are specifically designated to the Gov. and his council, not the court, or the legislature.

Still, we have been trying for going on 7 years to get the amendment voted on and put onto the ballot.

Look, if she appointed three of the judges who favor homosexual marriage and think it's OK to kick around the state legislature over the matter she's got some deep seated personal problems everybody ought to know about before she's allowed into another public office.

Given the strength of the vote in this case, I'd suggest there's entirely too much evidence for her being part of a narrow fringe element when it comes to sexual behavior.

The rest of the state seems to have a problem along that line too. So, what is it, the beaches?

He's an SOB pig. I am glad he's out of the US Senate, but sorry he's your governor.

Well there IS no real difference, politically, between Menendez and Kean.

Kean's only value, if elected, will be as a placeholder, much as Lincoln Chafee is now. I.e. Kean will be simply one more warm body to add toward a total of 51 Republican senators, to hold the majority.

Kean if elected will be a royal pain in the arse. He likely will not vote for excellent SCOTUS nominees like Sam Alito (Chafee didn't).

He will be a thorn in the side of President Bush, just as Arlen Specter is now, only even more annoying because he's a cocky smartass kid.

That said, yes, I am going to vote for Kean.

That appears to be the set-up. My feeling is that the time limit was set to get the NJ Legislature to do something, soon. If it doesn't, I expect that the court would then be asked to do something. As I noted in an earlier post to another Freeper, the court expressed real reluctance to get anywhere near changing the traditional definition of marriage by judicial ruling. So whatever they did, it would probably be the minimum needed to fully implement civil unions (since the ruling noted that NJ has many provisions in existing state law that are similar to laws in states that now have civil unions).

BTW, I don't make the laws or hand down the judicial rulings. I am simply offering an opinion on what I think the judges meant. Personally, beyond protecting them from physical violence (as I would for any person), I'm not in favor of civil unions or anything else that gives any protected status to homosexuals or to any of their "activities."

Gridlock,

I will offer an opinion on answers to your questions but it won't be until tomorrow.

BTW, love the optimism expressed in your tag line. I'll settle for the current status quo.

His corruption is multiplied by the amount of cash he has on hand to buy votes, etc. When a stalker gal from his administration got arrested, he sent over$5,000 CASH to bail her out. Don't we all have $5,000 CASH in our office?

That's not exactly possible. Legal residency is a federal question, not a state question. The feds don't recognize gay "marriage".

I think Corzine's decision was to deny the funds to the religious organizations who promote abstenance.
