TAX THESE REMITTANCES. TAX THEM HEAVILY. It's money straight out of our economy--taxing it would at least help pay for incarcerating them when they commit violent crimes.
I learned something HORRENDOUS today regarding "legal" Mexican immigrants. My husband and I bought a house in our neighborhood to fix up and sell. We took out a mortgage at a very high rate (because it was "an investment property") and maxed out our credit cards to pay for the materials and supplies. We own two businesses that we each work anywhere from 60-75 hrs a week in trying to get over this economic slump that has hurt the Pittsburgh area. Rehabbing a house to sell for a (small) profit would take a little financial pressure off.
OK, so, now that the credit cards are maxed (and will be paid off once we close on the house) all the credit card companies have raised our interest rates up around what Tony Soprano would charge. While this is "temporary," the payments have just about doubled. Floating this since May has been taxing, to say the least.
After three and a half months, we finally got an offer. A nice "legal" Mexican couple is buying the house and getting a loan through the federal government. OK, that's nice.
WHAT I FOUND OUT TODAY from the Government Official doing the inspection at the house: These people a) Put NO money down b) are NOT married and READY FOR THIS????: C) Will have ONE HALF of their mortgage payment PAID for by the government for the life of the loan. Their payment is $1050 a month and Uncle Sam is picking up $525 PER MONTH of it.
That's over $6000 a YEAR. (More money to send back to their homeland????) My husband and I work like DOGS, pay taxes, spend little time with our kids to get "our" piece of the American Dream and barely get by. These people waltz in here and get half their damn mortgage covered.

the fact that they are spending millions of dollars on condoms and pinto beans after they've broken into the US doesn't grant them immunity from being catapulted (literally) back into ol' mehico.
I pay a substantial amount of taxes on the money I make, and I fail to understand how you seem to be so sure that I don't. There are many people who make transfers of money to Latin America, not just illegals. In your line of thinking, it is ok to tax something, just because illegals will pay a portion of those taxes. In my way of thinking, raising taxes is not the answer to the problem of illegals, or much else.
