What kind of moron would ever keep money in Mexico? Their corrupt government steals everything that isn't nailed down. And some things that are.

-Mexicans in the US send money to their relatives.

-Their relatives in Mexico purchase good, services and mordidas so some bureaucrat doesn't steal everything they have.

-The companies that sell these goods & services to the families of Mexicans in the US then in turn send the money out of the country as soon as they can before it's stolen.

Sometimes, this money goes to the Cayman Islands or the Bahamas. Many times it goes to the US, or to China. There are lots of Walmarts in Mexico now.

Para mi, no pasa nada.

But if you can figure out a way to send Rule Of Law and Property Rights to your inlaws; please try that.

Let's just put the entire world on the welfare roles of America and be done with it.

When people who are here ILLEGALLY "help their families" by being here illegally, that is a problem, yes it is.

This is a good thing.

-For a few hundred dollars in small unmarked bills, any Mexican consulate will sell you a Matricula Consular saying that you are Vinny Castilla or Eduardo Najera.

-Then you can wire money to a Mexican bank account.

-Then you can play poker or bet on sports on line without US authorities hassling you.

Free money for banks.

It gets printed but doesn't come home.

A tax needs to be set on any out of country money transfers. When (and IF) that person files his/her income tax, they can get credit for the taxes withheld.

I don't have a problem if the money is after tax earnings. I would bet that a good bit of this money is from wages paid under the table.

The IDB hopes the money going to Latin America can help turn around its economies. Families back home shouldn't be the only ones benefiting from remittances, the report concluded. A system needs to be developed so the money could be used to help Latin American economies prosper.

What a wierd statement. The money going to Latin America doesn't end up in mattresses. It circulates throughout the economy, helping their economies prosper. And helping people purchase things like exports from the US.

Most migrants, in fact, pay taxes and send only 10 percent of their earnings back home, he said.

Not exactly parasites. I'm no fan of illegal immigration but some things should be kept in mind.

I would consider a 15% remittance tax to be a good down-payment to cover part of the cost of free medical, social services, schooling for illegals, etc - as long as it went directly to the states and not the feds...

It is time for a 45% tariff on money wired to Central and Latin American countries.

What about money wired to families in Italy and Ireland and India from immigrants from those countries?

Can U.S. citizens buy Mexico property?

I'm in favor of establishing a reimbursement system whereby monetary exchanges or transfers with countries whose illegal citizens "borrow" our taxpayer funded services are assessed, invoices prepared, and duties or taxes levied in percentage proportion by nationality of illegals apprehended as reported annually by our nation's Border Patrol.

Since Mexico accounts for some 89% of all illegals entering the United States and illegals all totaled cost taxpayers some $41 billion annually, Mexico's share ought be $36.5 billion assessed in taxation, implemented by exchange rate adjustments from peso's to dollars and vice-versa. Since immigrants' receipts to Mexico make up only $24 billion, it looks like Mexico would run a deficit of $12.5 billion after ALL those remittances were confiscated.

However, since the peso isn't worth one damn, after we get through devaluating it, it'd be worth only a half-a-damn.

As I understand it, you can, but you don't actually get a "deed" or "title" to it. Hence, Mexico still owns it and may remove you from it at any notice.

Not only are the illegals sucking up a large percentage of the welfare, they aren't spending much of their earnings in this country. I see them every day riding bicycles and hauling a few bags of groceries back to their '12 to a room' cheap digs.

A 10% 'fee' on non-business money sent from the U.S. would certainly help offset the costs of illegal immigration. Hello, Congress??? Anybody home???

Why should those of us that send money to relatives in Latin America be forced to pay an additional tax??? We pay taxes when we earn our money. After that we should be entitled to send it wherever we want. Advocating for more taxes is not a conservative value.

Far worse. I can't even think of a word to describe: "I don't remit funds overseas, so let's tax those that do."

We pay taxes when we earn our money.

The hell you do. Since most of the money illegals make is under the table, it is NON-TAXED income.

After that we should be entitled to send it wherever we want.

And you should pay for your own emergency care & other social services too.

Advocating for more taxes is not a conservative value.

It is when it concerns illegals.
