UK probably has higher relative numbers of said 'problem' compared to total population.

I'm willing to admit there are more Muslims as a percentage. However in terms of a problem, for every Abu Hamza, there's the blind Sheik in New Jersey. For every lunatic extremist here, there appears to be another loony just as loud and barmy in your country.

US probably has more scope for the 'problem' to act due simply to size and numbers of potential targets.

That I don't agree with. They could hit Canary Wharf and it would hurt just as much as the WTC did for you, for example.

UK probably has more difficulty in dealing with 'problem' because of proximity to and membership in the EU.

I don't agree with that either. We retained our border controls. I think our exposure to terrorism in Northern Ireland has prepared us better for it, actually.

Neither side has stepped up to 'home grown problems' because both are very unsure how to deal with traitors at a time when treason is not in the PC vocabulary. And, IF you suggested it; no Ivan, mcVeigh was a whole 'nother situation & one we will likely never learn the truth of. (Not to suggest he did not have links - just as Oswald had links.

I don't believe McVeigh was connected to Islamic extremism. If he was, that's entirely incidental.

Regards, Ivan

A hearty THANK YOU! to this soldier and his family, - and prayers for all those killed and injured in this fight against terrorism.
And thank you to those Britons (or those in any country) willing to stand up for the ideals of western civilization.

Where in the H-E DOUBLE HOCKEY STICKS did you get anywhere that I said ANYTHING whatsoever about anyone's TEETH? WHERE DID YOU COME UP WITH THAT? MY own teeth are mostly fillings and crowns and never were braced; look like crap - SO I WOULD NOT BE THE ONE TO CRITICIZE ANYONE'S DERN TEETH!!!

There IS the LIBERAL POLITICALLY CORRECT element in the United Kingdom, just like there is the Liberal PC element in the United States. There IS the brave warrior element in the UK, just as there is the brave warrior element in the US. The PC ELEMENT has always put the brave warrior element in harms way whenever the PC ELEMENT gets in power for any length of time, just as the CLINTON PC ELEMENT has put the US in harms way in a big way.

Oh, Ivan, I may cry at the drop of that hat, but my God, you have a temper tantrum at the day of a hat. Get a grip.

The BBC is dreadful, I think most of your papers are absolute cr@p, but otherwise, what a great place!

Thank you. I'm very happy to accept the BBC is rubbish. I'm very happy to accept the Independent, Guardian and Mirror aren't even useful for wiping one's behind. That's not the problem. I don't extrapolate from the New York Times, Katie Couric, et al, to say that America is doomed - you're not. Nor are we. What's maddening is when people take the institutions in Britain which run in parallel to those in the USA - the Guardian being analogous to the New York Times, for example - and say Britain is doomed as a result.

I recall reading recently of brawls between blacks, primarily of Caribbean descent, and "Asians" (often Brit press code for people of Pakistani extraction) in another English city. I wonder if that's what this is.

Possibly. I've been hearing of Muslim involvement in the drug trade, which would put them in collision with the established drug gangs

It's wonderful how you managed to take this whole thread off-topic by whining about a billboard.

Alarmism alert! Britain is doomed I tell you. Doomed!

What's more I predict stronger and more frequent riots in the UK as the world warms!

Somehow taking advice on what constitutes emotional stability from you seems akin to taking advice on good morals from Bill Clinton.

And, in case you have not heard, soldiers who have been wounded recently in NATO engagements in Afghanistan and are now recovering in UK hospital wards, have been threatened by Muslims coming on to the wards and abusing them.

I saw that earlier and was disgusted by it. The report also told of one soldier being instructed to remove his uniform so that he did offend anyone! - Disgusting (albeit typical) behavior by muzzies & libs!

Thank you for all your remarks. The only people who need to apologize about stupid billboards are the people who create them.

I have nothing but admiration and love for those British troops who are fighting and dying in Iraq and Afghanistan. I wish heartily that they could all be home with their families and loved ones. Without wanting to start another flame war, I admire Tony Blair for strongly supporting the US in this awful war and having to pay the nearly ultimate price.

I'll be back in November!

Thanks.
What I meant was that greater numbers equal greater threat and larger size equals more and often bigger targets.
It's becoming clear that you CAN find 'em and bust 'em, and we know your intelligence establishment is better coordinated. What about afterwards? (I'm pretty sure that the troubles have also left a distaste for certain types of prison and I really don't know about deportation, registration, etc.)

(I don't know who or what mcVeigh actually believed in and doubt the public ever will.)

H-E DOUBLE HOCKEY STICKS

What do the Canadians have to do with it? Ha!

I agree, I just don't see the need to paint eveyone with a broad brush. No Brit would be posting here if they did not agree with us. Why not welcome them rather than insulting them, or bringing up the Marshall Plan at every possible moment.

OK, great, the Marshall Plan was a good thing. Nuff said. But bringing it up continually is the height of adolescent ungraciousness.

Over 100 British troops have died in Iraq, but you don't see the Brits bringing that up on every post.

But I will.

Some of the arguments you've had about detaining terrorists have already come up because of Northern Ireland...the Prevention of Terrorism Act gives the police extensive powers of detention, for example.

As for our prisons versus yours...as I've never been inside a prison, I can't really say for certain. I have family links back to the police, and what I've heard about Wormwood Scrubs isn't pleasant. Is that worse than Utica? How long is a piece of string? Who knows.

Here is the post you wrote Ivan See Link. I apologize because it wasn't McVeigh that you made the comparison to - it was two different people (i.e. Jose Padilla and John Walker Lindh).

Your country appears to have just the same problem - the name Jose Padilla should ring a few bells. As should John Walker Lindh.

Are you serious? They have TV licenses and inspectors? Holy smokes! What's a license cost, and is it a yearly license?

Because Britain ruled the Indian sub-continent for 300 years, from the Persian Gulf to Burma, and the whole region is part of Asia. To us, Asians are what they call Orientals. It's just how they phrase it.
