There is room for compromise here, which I don't see they are interested in pursuing, unless I didn't see it. If she doesn't want to wear shorts, then what about pants of some type? Gym pants. I don't see a problem with that.

Let all students wear sweats if they want. Problem solved. If the Muzzies want any more than that, they can pound sand.

"It is a campaign "to adapt public schools in the United States to Islamic norms," Pipes said, and "is an integral part of its effort to adapt the country to the Shari'a, or Islamic law."
This is just silly. Tell me again how many non-Muslims they forced to stop wearing shorts? Oh that's right, none.

I'm with the muzzies on this one. If a girl wants to wear more modest attire because of her religion, that ought to be OK. What would be wrong would be to make the rest of the class do the same.
To: 300magnum
Bad idea. These girls are under threat to dress in the rags that symbolize death and hatred.

I wonder if CAIR would stand up for the right of any American female to enter a mosque during prayers and stand in the middle of all the male muslims? After all it is America and mosques have tax-exempt status which should mean that all taxpayers should have a right to enter.

The 9th grader at Lake Braddock Secondary School in Burke, Va., was "threatened with failing the class if she did not wear shorts," For what it's worth, the Muzzies are right that the schools should not be doing this. Not because of religion, but simply because an arm of the government has no business compelling such a thing.

Gym Attire Seen As Latest Attempt to Force Shari'a in US
Purposefully misleading and provocative headline. Also bullshit. This is not forcing sharia....making all the other kids cover up would be forcing sharia. If the kid's religion dictates that she be more modest then let her be more modest....is that really what we're fighting against here?

Guess my dad (Baptist preacher, not Muslim) was ahead of his time in the '50s and '60s. He sent a note each year that I wasn't permitted to wear shorts in gym class -- or dance -- or see movies -- or learn bowling. Needless to say, my school years sucked. Nothing like being the geek P.K. forced to the sidelines for 12 years.

wait I don't get it-shouldn't the ACLU be involved here taking up the case of the school district. If district policy is "gym clothes" for gym class and a religion does not want to comply on the basis of religion, shouldn't the ACLU be involved sighting their "separation of church and state" mumbo jumbo.

If your kids can't follow public school rules and customs, don't send them to public school. Home school them.
