Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) is a non-profit, progressive legal watchdog group dedicated to holding public officials accountable for their actions.

While CREW may be a Lefty Organization I do think that this entire case must be investigated.

And you whine, whine, whine, that Democrat voters will accept perversion where Republicans won't.

I honestly thought better of you.

These members, including Majority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) and Reps. Rodney Alexander (R-LA), John Shimkus (R-IL) and Tom Reynolds (R-NY) have all claimed that they failed to take action because the boy's parents did not want to pursue the matter.

That is why this is called a "statutory crime". If they knew and did not report it, they are complicit. It is all about morality and the rule of law. Immoral leaders are a threat to our Republic. No matter the party.

If they knew these e-mails and IM's existed and did nothing they are complicit in anything that Foley did that was illegal.

Be careful here. No one has said that they knew about the IM's and news sources are reporting that they just came to light.

The e-mails are a somewhat murkier thing as we don't know which, or how many they may have read, or just heard about.

HEADS UP! At 3:25 CST, Jamie Colby of Foxnews reported that when Foley's shenanigans with the page first came on the radar screen, THE MATTER WAS ADDRESSED TO THE BOY'S PARENTS, WHO CHOSE NOT PURSUE THE MATTER. It's unclear who Colby got this info from. If anyone else heard the segment, check in ASAP.

That is true and has been known for a while. Rodney Alexander and also the St. Petersburg Times both said that the parents chose not to pursue it.

The more troubling part, though, is that people in charge of the page program were warning ALL pages to stay away from Foley. And in a case like this, it doesn't matter if the parents don't want to press charges. IF you are in the leadership and you KNOW about activities like Foley's, you quietly tell him to retire or get him out of positions like Co-Chair of the EXPLOITED CHILDREN Committee. I mean that's just stupid to leave him there.

Now the parents of this kid, the news story says MOC from LA didn't push because the parents were "comfortable" with the situation.

Consider it this way. If the matter were pursued, the publicity would be immense. There would be speculation about whether or not your teenaged son were gay.

The boy was no longer a page, but safe at home. He wasn't harmed, really, just grossed out. The boy doesn't seem inclined to pursue a relationship with Foley, he wasn't seeming to be influenced.

If you felt that the people you spoke with were going to be proactive in making sure Foley couldn't get near more pages, that may be good enough for you.

the House Leadership should be held to the same, if not greater standard, as a school teacher. That is, if the teacher suspects that their is abuse or an inappropriate relationship involving a minor they are legally required to reported it to authorities.

The fla gop did this to themselves. Foley has to submit his resignation to Jeb Bush. How ironic is that?

well, somebody has to represent the log cabin republicans. I guess the baton will be passed to cc. It's on topic because the topic is about a gay congressman. The keyword is "gay".

I have moved on. The Fla GOP is turning into a big joke. I think it's hilarious at this point. If you want to pretend that Florida's got a great red state, you go for it. I know that it's a wreck and I have a right to hold that opinion.

IF you are in the leadership and you KNOW about activities like Foley's, you quietly tell him to retire or get him out of positions like Co-Chair of the EXPLOITED CHILDREN Committee.

The problem arises that while they certainly knew Foley sent e-mail which seemed to be leading toward inappropriate behavior, did they know enough to take certain and swift action? Hindsight is 20/20.

Could it be the case that someone just knew "Foley e-mailed some kid and asked for a picture". Do you force someone to resign over that? If you've seen no other behavior that seems inappropriate, would you make a big deal over it? Might you feel that probably something hinky is going on, but you really can't prove it, the parents aren't worried enough to be making a stink, so maybe you're just overreaacting because you know Foley's gay? Maybe you tell an authority higher than you and make it his problem to deal with, but he doesn't have anymore info than you have.

With just the e-mails, or knowing about a couple of lines in the e-mails, it is somewhat gray.
