She was pretty.

They need to bring that name back. Naming the F-35 the Crusader II really would get the point across.

Yeah, that's an RF-8G photo recon version.

I remember that one.

A SAM made a direct hit on the inboard portion of the wing, and it blew off about 5' worth of wing-span/wing-skin and also severed completely 2 wing front spars (the wing had five in the image)

Yes, that's the one. I'd forgotten it was a SAM that had hit him. He was standing there surveying the damage in amazement.

The F-22 uses two engines of similar design to the one used on the F-35 (they're virtually the same engine) but the F-35 engine has a higher thrust to weight ratio; 10.5 to 1. This far surpasses anything before it. But the F-35 only has one engine, so I don't think it will match the F-22 with it's dual engines and thrust vectoring. Not sure, though.

In the early 70's the world of air superiority was rocked by the introduction of the 14 and 15; the first planes capable of vertical ascent. The F-4 was no match. This is the first time since then that a similar major change in the balance of air superiority has occurred. The 22 and 35 are out of this world.

Thanks for the info, I didn't know the two planes used virtually the same engine. From the reports of flight tests so far on the F-22 it's a phenominal plane. I'm anxious to see the reports on the F-35 after its flight testing begins.
