I seem to remember it was a man reading a newspaper, but I'm not sure....I'm not imagining that, am I? Sorry for not reading all the way thru...

I was just asking my husband about that statue of the man sitting on a bench outside the WTC...reading the newspaper.
I, too, thought I saw it intact after the attack.

Was it a man sitting on a bench, covered in ash?
I have a copy of that photo. I bought it at www.hereisnewyork.org.
I'd post a link, but the site seems to be down at the moment.

Why of course, that looks just like a man sitting on a bench reading the newspaper. Sheesh.

Nope.....doubt there were laptops when the WTC was built.
This was a man reading a newspaper sitting on what appears to be bench like those found in parks.

The last article I posted disctinctly describes a briefcase, not a laptop.

I think you may have meant this. Still looking for a better picture.

I remember that guy. He was seated on a bench in a little park across the street from the trade center. When I worked in the area I'd go sit next to him every now and then when I needed some air.
There was a similar statue in middle of the WTC plaza between the towers. It must have been by the same artist. Was a fellow in a long rain coat bent forward with one leg in the air and his arm extended trying to hold on to an umbrella. It looked like he was being tipped over by a huge gust of wind...which were typical at the base of the towers. There were constant wind vortices.
I'll never forget heading to the PATH trains one night in the pouring rain at dusk seeing it for the first time. I could just make him out in the distance and I thought "What is that idiot doing there standing like that?" Laughed my ass off when I got up close to it.

You're right, there was no laptop. But he did have a cool calculator and some similar items inside his brief case.
That was one great statue. Just a tad smaller than life-size. Well, life-size if you're small I guess. :-)
