Better question... would FReepers care about that life?
Indeed, "who pays?" is an important question, as not even live-preserving care is without its costs. I would first be interested to know why the insurance stopped paying for her care.
Then I would be interested in examining the question of priorities in terms of what the government is spending on health care, who benefits and how; for example, I would say that there's no care for any foreigner that should take precedence over life-preserving care of an American citizen. Divorced from context I can see how it can in some cases simply be too expensive to continue paying for care for someone who is not long expected to live. In the context of billions and billions spent by the gov't on illegal aliens, abortion subsidies, viagra for sex offenders, "gender-reassignment", etc., it takes on a whole new color.
One must ask why a person like this - US citizen, not a criminal, not a pervert, not terminal - seems to always be last in line to be helped, once the private money runs out.
Finally, another element that bothers me is the promptness with which the decision was made, and whether the system that is in place encourages "accidents" in treatment, such as this woman suffered from the dialysis, that coincidentally happen to save the people making these decisions a lot of money.
I guess one thing that colors my own perspective is that not too long ago my grandfather passed away; he was quite old, and it was his time, yet for years before his time came, various doctors wanted to push him down a path I can describe accurately as nothing other than an encouraged accelerated death.
Terri was paid for, did you care about her life?
Are all acts that are against God's direct orders, carried out by God through people? When doctors murder, it's really God doing it? When pedophiles rape, it's really God doing it? Sorry, I can't buy into that theory.
Good questions in your post. Questions we don't yet have the answers to.
This is all about money.
that says it all
My son was on dialysis and Medicare paid for it. I thought the federal govt. took over this years ago.
My brother-in-law's dialysis was also paid for by Medicare.
Yes, and at least we can rejoice that the rumored 'death cult who wants to see this woman dead' is in fact, a myth. It's all about money. So... Find the money, or send her to another hospital. Saying "it's all about the money" doesn't mean much when it's the bank and they want the payment on the house... Not sure why saying that would make this problem go away either.
Health care in this country is totally impacted by the millions of illegals who have invaded this country.
Illegals bring with them diseases such as leprosy, drug-resistant TB, malaria, AIDs, tape worms, etc.
The illegals have overwhelmed our health care system andit's costing us billions of dollars a year.
To stay alive hospitals are pulling the plug on paying patients once the reimbursement runs out.
This thread has a lot to do with the treatment of illegals.
What a horrible decision. Everyone should reread their health insurance policy and stay away from Texas. Does this family have a legal defense fund?
What makes you think they will pay 0? Do you have some reason to think that your tax money is somehow set aside to pay for things like this? I am so sick of people screaming about how their taxes are spent. If it were your mother or your child or yourself in this situation, would you object to spending mine? We all pay taxes. I want my share used to take care of this family.
Context is everything, grin and bear it, roxy it.

MEDICAL COSTS ARE TOO HIGH. That's my final answer. good day...
I never advocated any such thing.
What I advocate is that the family seek out a hospital with a benevolant policy and similar morals.
People really need to wake up and take care of their business beforehand - without clear written end-of-life directives we are going to see this time and time and time again.
Yes. Your point???
