What about alien signals like those originating in the Middle East?

LOL!
I don't care what they do as long as my tax dollars aren't funding this insanity.

More importantly why are we wasting our research money on this and not spending it on something worthwhile like expanding beyond our little blue marble.

Well, if we're getting their signals, they are getting our signals. They'll probably come and destroy us once they start getting Three's Company.

The headline is misleading (as usual). The article points out that this is but one of numerous potential uses.

Didn't seem misleading for the first half of the article. I know that they want the reception power for something else, but human exploration is worth more. IMHO

This is good - now instead of watching Honeymooners episodes for the 58th time, we can see the alien version...maybe there, Kralph Ramden actually strikes it rich and lets his best buddy, Ned Orton, run the operation from the sewer while Kralph sits on a beach getting high while sucking Coke bubbles down via his tentacles.

Many years ago, I sent a question to the "questions" address at SETI. "How far away would we be able to detect a radio transmission from an alien planet with our existing technology?"
Their response was that some of the TV stations we have on Earth would be detectible from about 10 light years away with our then existing equipment, provided that the transmission was aimed at the listening planet (an usually, Earth-based transmitters are not).
That's not very far away. I'm guessing that amounts to about a dozen stars (correct me if I'm wrong someone). Of course, I guess this telescope would be more sensitive.

Aliens all use cable TV anyway.

The alien TV signals would possibly be only pay per view. Descrambling the signal could cause an invasion.
