Ah, now it all becomes clear!
Thanks!
(Now I want one. One of my high school buddies moved to California after graduation and has been holding In-n-Out over my head for TWENTY YEARS.)
I like In N Out but I don't think it's the best burger. It's the best value for the money though (though Micky D's $1 double cheeseburger deal is not bad either).
I think Fatburger is better (albiet more expensive) and there is a great place that's been around a long time called THE APPLE PAN that makes a good burger http://www.ahamburgertoday.com/archives/2005/08/apple_pan_quali.php . Believe it or not, the best hamburger I have ever had was just recently at the Sofitel Hotel in Minneapolis. I kid you not. Seasoned just right.
And check this menu out for a popular burger place in Santa Monica called THE COUNTER.

Alton Brown of Good Eats on the Food Network also has a very interesting way of making burgers. He flattens out the hamburger meat on parchment paper with plastic wrap on top with a bottle in a large square pan till it's very thin. He then seasons it with salt, pepper, onion powder and garlic powder then folds the meat over in half by lifting the parchment paper from one side to the other. He then squares the corners (thus you have one big square meat patty) and cuts smaller hamburger squares with a pizza cutter. These lil babies cook quickly with no fear of burning the outer part of the patty while attempting to cook the inside as is usually the case with a big thick patty. I have tried it and it wont' cook hamburgers the old way ever again!
Man, oh man, that sounds GOOD.
Pinging Bacon to MAH's post - he has discovered a new way of burger-makin' that I think we should try!
Sionnsar - paulat wanted me to ping you and join.
Details when you get a chance. You can freep-mail me if it is a secret society!!
Actually, it was 20 patties and 20 slices of cheese...look at the receipt...note the 4x4 in addition to the 16 patties and slices of cheese.
You're thinking of "Animal Style", I'll bet...it's my favorite!
