He said he has "battled with the disease of alcoholism"
It's not a disease, it's an acquired habit. The only real treatment is personal will power.
Can't forgive his rant against President Bush for going into Iraq either because I believe his opinion is rooted in anti semitism. Many feel that the President went into Iraq to benefit Israel and to them, that is unforgivable.
I've been drunk.

I didn't hear about that but it sure makes sense when one considers the President's support for Israel.
"The problem is that booze tends to bring out one's true nature."
Yes but alcoholism warps that nature.
Gibson's rant sounded exactly like Buchanan's, Matthews, and assorted other Israel haters.
Desire to change is an absolute requirement.
"Will Power" is not necessary unless you're trying to do something you don't wish to do. Will power alone indicates a lack of desire to change, and by itself is quite useless in overcoming alcohol.
It may warp termperment, but not I think, instinctual beliefs and sensibilities. The guy is a Jew hater who has disciplined himself to contain that, when sober, usually. That is my guess.

Those of us who are not alcoholics think it's personal will power. But apparetnly an addict has some condition that makes the will weak or nonexistent. AA gets a lot of people sober because many others in the same boat are succeeding in staying sober and helping others along. While some people can quit cold turkey, I believe that drunks and other addicts stand a much better chance by joining a group or getting some other kind of help.
Of course Mel Gibson knows all about this...has he been to The Betty? Or AA groups? I'd venture to guess that he has. Tons of Ho-wood people show up in these places and many find the help they need to stay away from their drug of choice.
Also, Gibson is a heavy smoker, considered by some to be another form of addiction. So the guy has an addictive personality, as they say. He can certainly afford to get all the help he needs. Of course, he knew that before getting a DUI like an idiot.
I haven't heard Matthews yet, but Buchanan is a hater...and an anti-semite.
As he will have mine too. Amen.
Watch out...passing turnip truck! Oops, someone fell off.
What's hard to understand is that 0.12 isn't exactly an amount of alcohol where one would expect semicoherent ranting of the sort reported. Heck, most people experience only minor impairment at that level. I have to wonder whether some other substance was involved here.
That's what I was thinking. Most likely a wee bit of "toot."
What did he do, quote the New York Times?
You haven't heard Chris Matthews rant against the President for going to war in Iraq?
